Really putting on the growth now. I'd think 3 cuttings a year when it's at this growth stage would make for some palatable forage. It has to better than one cutting later on in the year.

Think this is similar to Big Bluestem or Turkey foot. Have a lot of it in my hay fields along with Little Bluestem. Think it spreads through root system roots go up to 10ft deep from what I have read. Really cool looking when it stems out with seed heads. Also turns reddish in the fall. Have few areas I don't cut just let grow. Tolerates spring burn very well.
 
Out of all WSG I think gama is by far the best cattle feed. I would rather have brome or alfalfa, but gama mixed in every few bales isn't too bad. Yes, get it cut before it gets too stemmy.
 
Stuff grows almost too fast.
