I’m looking for opinions on the best cellular trail camera currently available for under $200 per camera (most seem to be in the $100-$150 range). I’ve seen some good reviews on the Tactacam 3.0 and the SpyPoint FLEX-M. Besides the quality of the images and the price of the camera, I’m also looking for opinions on the best data plan packages. What do you like the best or dislike most about your cameras?

I have 2 tactacams and the downfall I see are the plans. It’s $13 a month per camera for unlimited and that adds up if you want to run several cameras. I think if I had 5 or 6 I could figure the deer movement out quick and have some on time Intell to make a decision on what stand to hunt.

I bought a pack of 6 refurbished spypoints for $180. Otherwise can catch the 2 packs on sale for decent prices. You get 100 pics a month per camera for free, or buy the club membership for $99 a year and get 250 pics a month on all your cameras.

I thought long and hard about that refurb dealio but opted out due to no two year warranty on the refurbs.

Have you been happy with the refurbs? Any issues?

I probably should have pulled the trigger as Spypoint just replaced a four year old and six year old cameras for me that were clearly out of warranty at no cost. My guess they still warranty the refurbs as well??????

For $30 a piece for cellular cams they are almost disposable! LOL

Several years ago, I got a spypoint. It was one of 3G models, which don't work on 4G or 5G networks. I got a year and a half of function from it before the cellular towers got rid of the 3G signal. I didn't know this at the time, so I spent a lot of time trying to get in touch with customer support. Calls were routinely 1 hr+ before I got tired of waiting and hung up. Never did get to talk to someone in a dozen tries. I know the 3G issue was my fault for not seeing that the cam was bound to be worthless in time, but I had to do a lot of online searching to figure out what was going on... in my experience, Spypoint customer service is non-existant. Admittedly, this was 2 years ago, may have improved, but I'll never need to find that out.

I ended up going with ridgetec. Got the model with both ATT and Verizon chips. Every time I've called customer support, I get in touch virtually immediately, they know my account by my phone number before I even tell them who I am. Questions answered in minutes. A+ for their support. I'll be buying their new model when it hits the market to add a 2nd cellular cam to my fleet.

No experience with the other cellular brands...

I'll second the Ridgetec recommendation. I'm 3 hours away from private land I hunt and have added the 12v external batteries to get months of time online. Plenty of options to control settings remotely and no contract so you can turn off and back on month to month to match your needs. You can select plan to fit number of cameras. Can set to video or pic. If video, you get a snapshot and can decide if you want to download video now or wait to get it off sd card on next visit. I'm anxiously awaiting new models also and will be trying out due to their great customer support. Cost a little more than others, but customer service is more than worth it.

They announced the new Ridgetec camo model is now available. $159. They will refund 30% of the purchase price of a new cam if you send them a working older model.

wonder if other camera companies let you trade in for a new model like ridgetec does?

Customers will be able to trade-in their WORKING Lookout Dual cameras towards a discounted Lookout-X. We are still working out which method we will use and will have details ready when the camera is.

This trade-up discount will still be valid after the introductory pricing ends.
