I wondered what this grass was called and from what i found it is "Sea oats". It's very isolated on our property and only found in areas where the trees are not big enough to shade it out. From what i gather its deer resistant but great cover for wildlife and i'm pretty sure its a native oriental. My question is i was thinking about Collecting seeds and spreading it to other low tree growing areas for more cover as it gets about 2 - 3 ft tall and stands all winter. Looking for opinions on if this is a bad thing to spread or not? Thanks

That appears to be river oats. They tend to grow in creekbottoms. It is good forage for many species of birds.
I have it growing in upland shade. Shallow, almost rocky soil. Go figger. We spread the seed every fall.
It's native, never invasive (that I can find), and interesting stuff. I dunno what eats it, but obviously something is spreading it, other than wind.
