You using a float or balloon to get your bait off the bottom? If not, I don't see either way being much different from eachother. Benefit of the 3-way swivel is you can use lighter line on your weight to break it off and not lose the whole rig.

Always make sure its a smooth, soft bottom if you are going to try it. Weeds and muck on the bottom are a no no. They will get your bait all dirty and make it smell.

When preparing for the 3-way, I find it helpful to watch other 3-way videos in order to refine my technique. I also find it useful in the 3-way to find baits of equal weight, be they large or small. I find large baits are much more productive and easy to handle at night when it is darkest under a waning gibbous moon. :

 

There are several types of three-way. Some are more desireable than the others. People should be more specific when referring to it so we know which way they are doing it. That way I might learn something new.

Makes sense to me and I have Floats.

The Big Grin has Floats so she won't drown.

 

Always carry an extra business card for 3-way, use it to keep your baits from touching.
