Youth Hunt Nov 29th-Dec 1st

I have a big ask, but this would be the place to find an answer to the call.

I have exclusively bow hunted for about the last 12 years. I have permission on several small parcels around Kansas City, all within city limits where firearms are prohibited.

I have lived in my current place in KC for 5 years and my next door neighbor has a son who I’ve watched grow up from age 4 to now 9. He is a good kid and helps me shovel snow, rake leaves, do odd jobs etc for pay. He is a straight A student and goes to the local parish school. He has also become interested in hunting after initially watching and then eventually helping me clean and process deer after bow hunts.

He and his dad now want him to learn to hunt. We have been shooting a few times and he is safe and follows instructions.

My dilemma is I have nowhere to take a youth to firearms hunt. He is too young to apply for the youth managed hunts. I could take him on public land, which is my current plan, but if anyone in Missouri within an hour of KC would be interested in hosting a youth hunter accompanied by me the weekend after Thanksgiving, I think it would make this kid’s year. It would also probably add 2 new hunters to our ranks as his father is a non-hunter but shows all the signs of interest. They would have no problem signing a liability waiver.

If anyone feels like this is something they would accommodate, feel free to PM me.

You’re a solid cat
Not sure if you found a place, but a cross bow could be a good option for him on some of the local suburban areas you have to. Just a thought. Good luck and great to see you getting another kid into the sport.

A crossbow would also give the young man a longer period of time to hunt. If it rains or is terribly cold he could have a miserable first hunt experience. Going during archery season he would have 4 months of weekends to pick and choose the best weather to go.
Agree with all those thoughts. Part of the limitation is my availability too. This kid played all winter out in the snow so I’m not too worried about weather. He and his siblings play outside from dawn to dusk all year round. They ride bikes and scooters everywhere, even in the rain. Honestly, they are kids that belong in the 1960’s more than now.

I have had several generous offers from all over the state to take my neighbor kid hunting. Thank you for all of the people who have reached out. We are working on figuring out availability, but it looks like we will have a new hunter by December 2019.

I'd take that kid hunting on an urban spot with a crossbow before I'd drive across the state for a rifle hunt.
Not to be nosy but I guess the 2-3 Nov is out for some reason, I think I have all the youths I can handle or I'd tell ya to come to the kingdom, glad you found someone.
The early season is out as I am not available Nov 3 weekend.

I can likely take him archery hunting other times during the season.

We have an offer for a gun hunt 25 mins from our neighborhood just outside KC. Thanks for all the interest.
