Gets you a ticket :mad2::mad2::mad2:

My father bought me a shotgun lastyear new from a dealer. Gun was already assembled. So here ive been hunting with it for a year, putting 3 shells in it assuming that it had a plug in it. Well yesterday while duck hunting I got checked and come to find out it didnt. Conservation agent was real nice about everything, but wrote me a ticket... Cut me an arrow lastnight to use as a plug.... Wont be having that problem anymore...

Sorry to hear you paid the price for an incorrect assumption. Since this is now serving as an educational tool to help others make sure they don't do the same thing, do you mind telling how steep was the fine?

That isnt good. Sorry to hear that man. We can take ours out up here for certain seasons, but I'd rather not just because of what happened to you.

Oh well...lesson learned, eh?!

I had a plug break on me once, so I removed the broken smaller piece, and left the larger piece in the tube, until I could replace it.

One of those "just in case" situations, to hopefully avoid what happened to you.

On LittleLongbow26's 870 youth Jr. shot gun we baught him last year, I orrigionally asumed the plug was in the gun since it was not in the packadge.

But when wife broke the gun down to clean it magazine tube as well no plug.

Terns out some how the plug had been liberated from the box, Remington sent a replacement. Used a cut pensil untill it arrived just so we wont forget even thouhg youth spring turkey season was 3 months away.

I to hate removing the plugs from my gun for teh seasons one is alowed to hunt with out one, simnple because I might forget to re insert it.

I often find me self on ocasion checking to see if I can load more then 2 shels in the magazine tube. I guess I am paranoid about having taken the tube out and forgeting I did. Much easier to check that way then to disasemble the gun.

Well I have a 1-800 number to call tommorrow to find out, he said he wasnt sure. He first said it wasnt going to be that bad, and said its one of the cheapest fines you can get... But he didnt think there was a difference in hunting with an unplugged gun... Come to find out, if your hunting waterfowl with an unplugged gun, its a whole new fine itself. So the agent was unsure how much the fine will be, ill find out tommorrow.

Sorry to hear it.
Been a lot of talk about MDC agents on here lately,using common sense and discretion.I've known our local agent for 20 years,but he checks me at least once a year anyways.

We were BSing one day and I asked him about it.He told me that when they are trained,every thing is pretty much black and white,if you violated,you get a ticket no matter the reason.He explained that if ya get by with keeping a fish thats 1/4 inch short once,ya might do it again...or keep one 1/2 inch short next time...and so on.

Its a shame to get a ticket for a mistake,but thats the way it is.The 5% of scumbags will always break the law,but the rest of us will continue to follow the laws with a reminder here and there.Edit...wasn't calling you one of the 5% by anymeans,if it read that way it wasn't my intent

Agents most of been busy writing tickets this weekend... Called twice today to find out how much I would have to pay, and have been put on hold for 45min each time so I gave up. However I must say, I got a little sheet with my ticket showing the most common Violations, and the cost of the penalty, and they arnt very much... I mean seriously, some of them arnt even a smack on the wrist.... Killing a turkey before season is only $125
