I am in the market for a wood splitter. I don't know if I will be buying used or new. Any advice on what I should avoid or one to recommend.

The ones sold at Home Depot and Lowes work pretty good, there is a cheaper (in cost)one at Menards and Northern tool, they probably all made in the same place..

There's a stolen one out of KCMo out there somewhere. Guys (4 of them) cut our fence in front to avoid the camera zeroed in on the gate.
They tried to steal a $10,000 stump digger, but couldn't move it.
The darned thing had a bent tongue, a $150 replacement engine, and a $4 gas can kinda propped up for its gas tank. It kind sucked to use it.
I hope they get $20. Anything else would be someone more stupid then the guys who stole it.

Find one without a channel that the splitter slides inside. It collects debris that has to be cleaned out frequently.

My brother has one that slides on the outside. No debris the clean out.

You will spoil your wood splitter with that thing.

I wouldn't. It's not like a lawnmower, that may see a hundred hours a year.
Run it out of gas when you're through, and buy non-ethanol fuel, like with all small engines.
