Wonderful Wyoming

Just got back from our annual summer Wyoming trip. This one was a little different. We did not fly fish, hike, or scout as much as usual as we had appointments to look at land, lots, homes and talk to builders. Fun and stressful all at the same time. Eighteen months until retirement. We can't wait.
Will be back out there for mule deer and antelope starting late Sept.

I’m jealous. Like many, I dream of retirement out there.

SWEET, well other than starting retirement by building a house, that is a rough way to start, but it'd be worth it.
Manitou, where are you looking out there?
Buffalo/Dayton/
Ranchester/Story/Sheridan... in that order.
Lol... building is our "Plan B". The folks we are talking to are aware that if we find an existing home on the market that suits us, we will go that route. Building one is not a party I wish to attend at this stage of my life. It may be a necessary evil if we don't have what we want when the time comes.

Do you plan to stay there all year in retirement? I would imagine there’s some long rough winters up there!

Congrats, 18 months is no time at all. .. beautiful country. How many years you been going up there?
Yes, all year. Wouldn't want it any other way!
Been going out to WY for 22 yrs. It is our "home" in our hearts. Wife grew up there.

WY is on the very short list of places I would consider moving to as well! I'm sure you'll be in heaven once you settle in. Congrats on your nearing retirement!

Did you put in for this year Callaojoe? I know the draws were really tough this go. Lots of folks dumped their points. Even historically 100% draw areas were tough.
There is a couple in our area that went to Wyoming and bought a home. After several trips to WY they thought they wanted to live there. After the first winter they moved back to Missouri.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you.
Yeah, I think we have a feel for the winters. I hunt there in the fall, wife grew up there. Have snowmobiled the mountains in the winters. Was stationed in Alaska a bit. Alaska was on our short list too, although I think it may have been a bit much for my wife... she wanted to go. I think we can hold our own. I prefer cold weather over hot, humid summers here.

I moved back from New Orleans 2 years ago, that is humid city, love Missouri.
Ahh... I think I asked you that before. Gets windy on the front range but no doubt you're well aware of that.

We were on the other side of the state, Star Valley, for three years and the winters were DEFINITELY NOT the reason we came back. Snowflake has a significantly different connotation out there....most of them are the real thing. Two sets of aging parents were the impetus. Winters were long, for certain, but, I loved them! You never had to wonder if you were going to be able to ski or snowmobile and it was a beautiful time of year with darn few tourists where we lived. An hour away in Jackson such was not the case but it was far enough we really never felt any effects of it....except for real estate prices.

Though we've been back in Missouri for 16 years come October, Wyoming is still really home. It gets in your blood and your soul.

I'm staying in Missery...I mean Missouri.:D
Getting all giddy. I will be heading back out in a couple weeks with a muley tag and three pronghorn tags in my pocket. This will be my first go on the new private ranch I secured permission on last year. 13,000 acres of grassland. Owner says it holds muleys... we will see. Driving my poor wife nuts as she won't be making this trip.
