That's fantastic red_delicious... That is such a thrill. But I only have one under my belt so now we are the same. Lol. St. Charles isn't to far away. My co worker is from there.

I am somewhat new to hunting as well and am obsessed!!! This is my second season and hoping it to be better than last year, I am always looking for others to share my passion with as well as looking for any tips on public land hunting. Last year I hunted up North near Hannibal but am focusing more towards Warren countyish this year.

Hi GirlyHunter. Hunting private land takes a lot of work. Someone stated it all real well in a different thread. You have to get there earlier than everyone else if you hunt mornings. Staying through mid day often pays off. Scout!! But know everyone else is to. Fine line between scouting and educating the deer. It's a game. Lol. But it's so fun!!

Sort of . . . lol. I thought it was a doe . . . but it turned out to be a button buck. In my defense . . . he was 75 yards away and it was my first time out. Obviously, I would have preferred a big ol' buck . . . but I feel okay about the one I got. It was my first shot fired at the first deer I saw on my first ever deer hunt.

No need to be sorry about it, many of my favorite meals involved button bucks.:

I am actually pretty proud of him! It was a mentored hunt put on by MDC at Jay Henges Conservation Area . . . and I had to hunt with a muzzleloader. I have spent the last two months at the range getting used to shooting it and taking target practice. I shot this deer at 75 yards without a rifle rest and hit him right where I was aiming. My first hunt was storybook perfect . . . and I am really happy that I was selected to participate in this event!

I'm kinda late to this thread but congrats to all the ladies who are out hunting. I sometimes wish my wife would show some interest in hunting but then I realize I would never get any alone time if she did and I'd have to share my guns, bad idea. :D Glad to see y'all going out and enjoying the hunt.:
