I have it on pretty good authority that the Wise buck mount from Howard County (it's been referred to on here as a Columbia buck, but it was actually taken in Howard County) will be at the Deer Classic in Columbia. Another reason to make the trip!

Maybe I missed this, but why do they call it the Wise buck? Was it taken on Wise bros property?

sposed to have been taken in Howard county, but not sure exactly where....there was a post about it awhile back, big tall rack, still in velvet...was confiscated for a bit by the Dept....sumptin fishy about it. Claims to be the 2nd largest deer in the world....was on the KC news this am, claiming that even.....but I'm thinkin they left out the Buckmasters part of that world.....It'd have to go well over 300 inches to claim the #2 spot.......I guess it's buildin the fellers ego though....

I called it the "Wise buck" because that's the hunter's last name. Don't know the hunter, but know someone who does. It's the buck that was taken by bow, shot at about 60 yards, and is the #2 all time buck with a bow while still in velvet (I think). It was taken in Southern Howard County, but I don't know precisely where. FWIW, I think some part of Southern Howard County may be about 7 miles West of Columbia. There was controversy surrounding the buck, as Wise, I heard, was charged with baiting earlier in the year, and the MDC investigated the circumstances for this particular kill, probably, in part, because of Wise's past. Many have expressed skepticism on this board about this buck, but there is no question as to it's existence. I have absolutely no axe to grand in this, but am anxious to see the magnificent animal, regardless of who took it.

Thanks, KRB, for pointing out my mistake - I edited the post.

Rat: I know of the Wise Brothers yuo're talking about. Don't know if the are related, but this buck was not taken on the property near their office east of Columbia. I was under the impression that it was taken over around New Franklin, like Outdoorsfool said. Maybe over towards Boonesboro?

I drove by their farm every work day for almost 10 years. As flat and open as their ground is along I70, I have seen several deer and a couple of wopper bucks over the years. (but I still saw more yotes than deer,,,i would see yotes almost every morning)

Yep.. as you head west on I70, you will see continuous RR soybeans since '96 with the occasional double crop of w. wheat. Lotsa property there and lotsa deer there as well. Gotta be connected to hunt there tho.

my dad called me and told me he saw a story about a record buck from missouri on the news a few nights ago when i was at work...the olympics were on and they watched the channel 4 kmov news at ten. I thought someone had found a huge set of sheds or something then i found out it was the same ole wise buck story. Thats an awesome buck but im still wanting to know where this "number 2, and number one is 213 inches taken in canada." I thought this buck was in velvet and also nontypical? IM confused

heres a link to the story...
