So last fall I threw down some rye and some oats with turnips .
What is this stuff that has come up ?
I'm thinking it's rye

Leave it. It’s great fawning habitat.

fawns can certainly utilize it. if any bugs are within the plot and its not too thick poults can certainly use it. Deer however don't seem to utilize cereal rye heads as much due to the awns on the seedhead. I too would leave it if you don't have any plans for the plot until the fall. Since its an annual it will mature and die over the summer and just be stubble come fall.

I see a lot of turkey poults/hens in those fields also at that stage.

When it starts getting weedy as it matures the bugging gets good in it. Sowing red clover in it early makes good bugging too.
