What is a redleg?

    What is a redleg ? Never heard that before....:confused:

    The term was made famous by the movie...The Outlaw Josey Wales...which is one of the top ten movies of all time.

    That would depend upon which side you held allegiance to. The more common name for the group was the Jayhawkers. They committed some of the worst Pro-Union attrocities of the War. They would make raids into Western Missouri and kill and rape families of anyone who supported the Confederacy.
    Of course the Confederates had the Bushwackers and Bloody Bill Anderson who Frank James rode with. Jesse was later associated with the Bushwackers. They did some of the same stuff.
    But then, the North wins the war and the Jayhawks are accepted as a suitable for a College Mascot and the Bushwackers are associated with terroristic attrocities even though they both did the same thing.
