    I'm sure someone here at MWT will know for sure.

    I have a handgun that I bought brand new when there was still a waiting period. I would like to sell this gun now. It is a S&W Sigma .40 cal. What are the proper steps to selling it? Do I have to get a document of some sort from the sheriff or any other documents showing the sale of the gun?

    FTF doesn't require a thing, unless you want a bill of sale, for personal preference.

    an agreed upon price, and money is all it takes!!

    Protect yourself.

    The ATF tracks the gun to the last 4473 owner should there be a need to trace it. It would be best if you had a dated bill of sale in which the buying person is identified along with a copy of their ID and both signatures.

    Dont leave yourself in harms way.

    I actually had the same question. I asked about it with a gal that worked at the local sheriffs department. She didn't act like they messed with that anymore. Told me to call the dept. and ask, but haven't had a chance. Anyone else know anything, I'm interested as well.......

    I believe the sheriffs dept no longer keeps records for handguns. When you purchase new now you are checked against an FBI database, but there are no county or state records required for purchase. I know Mike's here in St. Charles will do firearms transfers for $10. Most of your small town gun shops should be able to transfer the firearm for a small fee. If not it would be a good idea to get a copy of the persons ID and fill out a generic bill of sale.

    Must be to a resident of Missouri that may "Legally own a firearm."

    Underage=No Sale
    Resident of another state=No Sale
    Criminal history=No Sale
    If the hair on the back of your neck stands up=No Sale

    Face to Face sale. Straw man or third party sales are prohibited.

    If you knowingly sell to a person that is prohibited from owning firearms, you just might need a 55 gallon drum full of $100 bills.

    Document the sale to protect yourself.
