I havent been out in the woods since the last Sunday of rifle season. I am just curious what kind of movement or behavior the deer are doing now. Is the rut over? Where I hunt I have to kill a doe before I can kill a buck. So hopefully Saturday morning I see a doe and can get back to hunting bucks. thanks

IMO the rut is definitely over. There will be another rut around the middle of the month, when the fawns come in cycle, and I expect it to be good this year. As far a taking a doe, I think your chances are great right now. I have see the most deer movement of the season where I live in the last week or so, they are really looking for food. I also don`t have a doe season with the gun pressure going on right now either.

I will be bow hunting and there is no firearm hunting allowed in the area that Im hunting in. The only presure they get is from bow hunters and Im hoping with the cold weather alot of them will be staying home.

The rut isnt over as far as Bucks looking for hot does and the occassional doe coming into heat. You just dont see it because so many of the does are bred or dead.

At night, while you were sleeping. :hysterical:[/rquote]

man if that wasn't so true it would be a whole lot funnier, but the truth of it just makes it that much more sad...:whinging:

I actually got to see a little bit of chasing. The night I shot my buck, (over 2 weeks before rifle season) an 8 point chased a doe right into my set. The older buck, that I shot, came in a lot quieter with an old doe. He was not letting her get far from him, but he wasn't dogging her like the 2 1/2 yr old 8. Then, during rifle season, I got to see 3 bucks dogging a doe hard. 1 for sure shooter, 1 probable shooter & a 2 1/2 year old.

Nothing better than taking your pick from 4-5:cheers:[/rquote]

yeah cept it was out my bedroom window 11:30 at night. All looked to be 1.5-2.5 and were about 20 yards away feedin on the alfalfer. Full moon that night. Not sure what possessed me to get out of bed to look, but it was cool to watch.

i had two bucks in the food plot the other night. one nice 8 and an 8 that had one antler broken off (4 pt now). The big eight postured up and the broken up buck walked behind him, came up on the side of him and started licking the hair on the back of the big 8pt buck where it was sticking up in the air. I'd say the rut is pretty much over for now.
