I have an observation here that I have noticed and I have a theory as to why, but I'm not sure. Lookin at that pic of the pintail and ones I have shot and seen shot here in Missouri, it sure seems that the sprigs aren't as long as the ones we used to kill when I lived in Louisiana.
I'm thinkin it's because of the later season and the fact that most of the pintail have cleared out by mid- December and are in Louisiana. But, it's hard to believe their sprigs would grow out that much in that period of time.

No its not, looks like a hen ringer. Ruddys will not have the white on the speculum.

Most divers have the ruddy like tail. In ruddys it is just much more pronounced.
