I think I was a very odd kid. When I was growing up I would hear things like "that bean field used to be a 200 acre timber."
Every time a piece gets dozed or a house built I get sad. Well this hit the nail on the head last night. Those who have lost ground to hunt
my heart goes out to you. We are all being affected...or possibly will be.

Yep.....35 years ago I had quail, deer, coyotes and other wildlife in my back yard. Today from the same back porch I only see rooftops as far as I can see. As for wildlife it's a few squirrels and one lone rabbit once in awhile.

Not gonna lie, when it's all said and done, I believe I am going to be very greatful that the time I spent on this planet, was during the period of time that I did.

But maybe that's just because it's the only time I ever lived here......

wayy back in the 60's G-Pa had 640 acres down by Licking Mo he got too old and my father wanted nothing to do with it. I remember that Farm auction like it was yesterday. I often wondered "what if" and get a bit misty eyed. Place was full of everything Southern Mo had to offer. When I'd go to bed in that featherbed with the window open you could here the Bob Whites and Whippoorwills ...man o man

Yeah it’s sad to me that somebody like me would do anything to own 300-500 acres of ground for hunting and bringing family an friends. And yet some people are born into 1000s of acres and it’s left to them and they want nothing to do with and keep zero of it to chase a dollar. So many farm kids these days moving off to live in a concrete jungle. Sad times these days where land is pissed away and if the majority had their way people like most of us wouldn’t exist cause we are “evil”

I spent my childhood roaming the creeks and sunflower fields of mesquite, Tx and my adolescence hunting and fishing Rockwall and rowlett. We came to the Midwest to escape the expansion of DFW metro mess in Texas. It is happening so fast.

Imagine if I70, from Kansas City to St Louis was one giant metro area no less than 50 miles wide at the narrow point. That’s the scale of Dallas/Fort Worth.

During rush hour, the city of Dallas is the most populous place in North America and most don’t even live in Dallas. They are trying to get from a to b.

And they are the worst drivers! I call it the Texas turn signal, you use the opposite turn signal because if you used the correct one, they will never let you in their lane lol.

I grew up on the north side of Columbia. We lived out near Prathersville. Moved into Parkade when I was about 10. I roamed all over the place, Bear Creek, the “Judges Farm,” Perche Creek, other places. It’s all suburbia now. Houses where I first missed a deer with my bow. Houses where I first killed a deer with a gun. Houses all around the pond where I caught my first fish. These places were wilderness to me when I was a kid. I can’t go back and even look at it anymore. Columbia is dead to me.

The video narrator asked where are they coming from, is he for real? Ugh look south my friend, right at your own border you may find the answer
Most of those crossing the border probably aren’t buying high dollar houses in new sub divisions. Those that are buying them are trying to get farther away from the city and border.

Kinda doubt the illegals are buying the $1.5 + million dollar homes on the ever expanding edge of the sprawl. Doctors, financial advisors, bankers, etc. from New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC most certainly are though. Just sayin’.

Same thing is happening in every major southern city…..Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, Dallas. All the same.
Hell, take look at places like Branson and NW Arkansas and you’ll see it.

It is sickening I agree. Especially when in a few hours driving around suburbia you’ll see 5 vacant strip maps and a vacant box store or two.

I say it needs to be strongly regulated. But I also strongly suspect/know that 9 out of 10 people b!tching about it the loudest would also say the left wing communist are trying to take over the country and destroy capitalism if any regulations or control or taxation to curb it was proposed.

Texas transplants are all trying to escape leftist California. But they bring the ideology with them.

We fear increased taxes and regs because they are aimed squarely at the middle class. When they aim at the rich, they just pack up and leave, and take our opportunities with them. Sometimes they have no other choice. Look what happened to Galena.

They supplied over 70% of the worlds lead. Now all of our lead is either recycled or shipped from China. Regulations disguised as an effort to protect the environment, literally destroyed an entire industry. Well that worked out great for us didn’t it?

We even get potting soil from China. Maybe not all, but a good bit of it. I have delivered tons and tons of it, specifically in 2,100 pound pallets. The only reason for that is higher margins. How can it be more profitable to ship dirt across the ocean and sell it?

On the flip, there are a few Republicans campaigning against Pittman Robertson. Yeah that’s gonna work out great for the silent majority, hard working middle class. I bet that will improve access lol. Right? GTFO!

Crazy times we live in.

And anyone campaigning on a “city boy tax” or etc. to stop the sprawl is going to lose because 90% of voters live in the city, and many of them dream about escaping that life.

You're correct, however your miscalculating what large effect it has on people who are moving and can afford those houses. People living near the southern border region are moving anywhere they can to get away from the mess is what I was implying. The rest of America has no clue how bad it really is down there, same with California, people are leaving are never before seen levels.

Agree with this 100%. That's exactly what I meant by they are buying them to get farther away from the city and the border.

It is also what I would term natural progression. You have old areas where cities started to spring up. Then as that hits 70 - 100 years old or older no one wants to drop a new house into an older neighborhood. So people want to dump their money into a new subdivision home so they can sell later if they need too. New house in new rich neighborhood is a good investment. New house in the ghetto is a bad investment.

Humans are like a virus. We consume everything until there is nothing left. I work in downtown St. Louis and often have to travel all over in the city. It's sad and disturbing to see what once was beautiful architecture and buildings turned into rubble and dead space. Instead of rebuilding and reusing we just sprawl and consume more...
