Dad bought a new Chevy Blazer a month ago. One trip to Springfield and the rear seal in the differential slung out all the gear oil. Car had 450 miles on it. The seal was incorrectly installed on the assembly line at the factory. No cost to him except having g to drive a loaner for 4 days while a new rear end was put in. I wonder how many other things that might go wrong in the future?Sounds like barber shop gossip to me. What you heard may be correct to an extent, but a lot of the shortage last year was due to the fact that manufacturers were making ventilators and parts for them and ceased truck production for a while. Secondly, I can't see a manufacturer tossing Carol from book keeping on the line to install engines while Tony is off sick.
Of course, this is just my view and I have no factual data either way. Let's google it! Be back in a few...
