Sounds like barber shop gossip to me. What you heard may be correct to an extent, but a lot of the shortage last year was due to the fact that manufacturers were making ventilators and parts for them and ceased truck production for a while. Secondly, I can't see a manufacturer tossing Carol from book keeping on the line to install engines while Tony is off sick.
Of course, this is just my view and I have no factual data either way. Let's google it! Be back in a few...
Dad bought a new Chevy Blazer a month ago. One trip to Springfield and the rear seal in the differential slung out all the gear oil. Car had 450 miles on it. The seal was incorrectly installed on the assembly line at the factory. No cost to him except having g to drive a loaner for 4 days while a new rear end was put in. I wonder how many other things that might go wrong in the future?

1) Truck sales are booming. Not so much with cars. 17,000 more trucks were sold in April than past April.
2) As stated in my last post... ventilators.
3) Transistor loaded semi-conductors are in short supply. These computer chips are what manufacturers install in the fuel management module to monitor and improve gas mileage. Ford and Ram are fabricating there trucks and storing them until chips are available. GM has elected to finish out their trucks and sell them with poorer fuel mileage for now.
This is according to the innanet, so it has to be true, right? ;)

I’m trying to buy a f150 and it’s ugly out there folks. Was going to call this morning to buy one sight unseen and it sold overnight. Back to square one.. fml
This morning I was going to mention that if you find one in Kansas I was heading that way tomorrow and could give you a ride but got a text and left this morning as I am in Salina now, Drove by the Ford dealer and they have a whole row of F-one fifty's, some are Shelby's and some Rousch's and some are neither, they carry black widows too, also a couple 3/4 tons sitting there
Ram had several trucks, Chevy has their lot behind their building so could not see their inventory, not sure why they did that

lots of used truck on lots from just east of cave springs exit to the nw corner of 70 and mid-rivers mall dr

Was that at Long McAurther or something similar named in Salina? I was there 4-5 years ago. That place had all kinds of special edition vehicles you typically don’t see sitting on the lot and multiple colors of each. Very cool place to check out if your a car guy.

3 doesn't pass the 'sniff test'... to the best of my knowledge, there are no extra 'fuel management modules to monitor and improve gas mileage' that can be 'done without' at the expense of mileage. And least in GM vehicles, fuel is controlled by the ECM. No ECM=vehicle no run. And as far as a previous post about the white trucks probably not running because their modules have been pilfered for other vehicles, doubtful. At least in the GM vehicles, there are a number of modules that allegedly can't be moved to a new vehicle once paired to one... In my wife's '15 Malibu, even the HVAC module sets codes when a used module is installed in another vehicle. Something more critical like an ECM probably simply wouldn't work if moved.

I did not say they were "pilfering" modules from white trucks to others. They are not even putting them in these white or what ever color trucks that are sitting on huge lots and fields cause they do not have them.

Per my GM source the chips in short supply are used in the ABS brake system along with the ECU and BCM and Infortainment systems
I think I posted on a different thread where GM Authority said they are building some Silverado's with out certain options due to the chip shortage, they said what those options are, but I do not remember....

Just writing what "Mr. Google" said about the big three and their chip shortage.

New F150's come with a built in ventilator and a 7200 Watt generator to run it to keep you alive...

I've got a 2010 Cummins diesel that just rolled 80k this month. No rush to buy anything either. Friggin trucks are more than my first house cost me anymore.

Just glad I bought my new F250 pre covid. Should last until the insanity is over or till we're full blown socialism.

Would like to order wife a new Ford Edge, but gonna hold off till next year since her's is still low mileage.

Do any of you guys know if the auto stop/start feature on many new vehicles can be turned off or overridden? Seems it is getting to be common to hear more and more vehicles starting back up at traffic signals.

My brothers 2017 F-150 and Wifes 2018 Grand cherokee, once started you can turn them off until you shut them off nd re-start them again.
My brother never turns his off as he has gotten use to it as well as I do not in the wifes, unless we are in heavystart=stop traffic

I know the Jeep Cherokee has a button on the dash you push after you I initially start the engine. Resets each time you start the engine. PITA

My 17 F-150 has the auto start stop feature. It becomes habit to turn it off as soon as I start the truck. It also is bypassed while driven in sport mode. Someone offers a switch bypass that you can install in the truck that defaults to the function being turned off, then hitting the button turns it on. Not sure if they offer it for many vehicles though.

He has never owned a vehicle for more than a year i believe and i think 1 year i remember he went through 3 vehicles talk about upside down!!

Not necessarily upside down only keeping a trucka year. Here you can trade High Country or ltz duramax trucks each year for $5k difference. Free dealer oil changes and never have to buy tires. I know a handful of guys that do that at various dealers with paid off trucks and write a 5k check each year.

I hope somebody has valuable input here. Mine has nearly caused three accidents now. Sitting at a stop sign in traffic, a small opening occurs, and I gun it to get out in between vehicles only to find my damn truck has to start first. I shut it off constantly, but occasionally I forget if I am in and out of stores, gas stations, etc.
Dumbest "innovation" to this date.
