Would wheat/rye grow right now if broadcasted onto soil or is it getting too late? We have have a 1 acre spot that the turnips did not grow and all it has is little grass in it that the deer have ate down to practically bare dirt so the seed would have good soil contact. The ground is pretty soft still so I don't think discing or harrowing is an option.

It'll come up in the spring, but probably won't germ now.

It will germinate now as long as the temp is above freezing, but you will get very little, if any, vegetative growth until spring.

Gotcha WM. Guess I was lumping germ and growth together.

I've always wanted to do something like this to get a jump on spring growth in bald spots, but not being able to harrow it in, I 'm worried birds/turkeys would get most of the seeds...is this a legit concern?
