Not bad but a couple of clicks left wouldn't hurt. Still MOD ( minute of deer)
PSA for why you should go to the range before rifle season instead of waiting in line at Walmart the night before. Bought a new Savage Axis .270 which said was boresighted and should hit paper. Took me quite a few rounds to get to this point. Not bad but a couple of clicks left wouldn't hurt. Still MOD ( minute of deer)
put an H in frontThat is a little too hot of a recipe according to IMR data.

For H4831 its at the top of the chart with 60 grs running 3021 fps but it is a bit hot if using IMR 4831 which my chart says the top load would be 57 grs running at 3039 fps. That is a little too hot of a recipe according to IMR data.

That's basically about a 1" group he posted, that'll kill deer way out past 50yds. He didn't say what range this group was shot, assumed it is 100yds.... As that is where most people work on loads.Good enough for a 50 yard shot at a deer but if it were my rifle all three would be inside the circle with the X in it at 100 yards before I'd be satisfied. You still have time.....try a different brand of bullet like henry suggested.
I use the cheater method. Put my rifle in the sighting vise, get crosshairs sitting on bullseye, then pull out bolt, and look down the barrel. Adjust the scope until they both line up on target. This won't put you on the bullseye, but it'll usually get you on paper.I start every rifle at 25 yrds and it never takes but a few rounds to get it on at 100.
Yes, this was at 100 yards. Should have clarified that. That's basically about a 1" group he posted, that'll kill deer way out past 50yds. He didn't say what range this group was shot, assumed it is 100yds.... As that is where most people work on loads.
Assuming that's 100 yds group, that'll kill deer way out past 100 yds... :wave1:
Do you think it was the specific caliber or the rifle itself?Bought the same gun and caliber. Had the exact same issue
In my case I'll put it on the user.Do you think it was the specific caliber or the rifle itself?
You can then fire a shot, put the crosshairs back on the point of aim, stabilize the gun well, and dial the crosshairs over to the point of impact. Called the One Shot Zero method. If it takes more than 5 shots to hit bullseye, you're doing it wrong. I would be more suspect of the cheapo scope that comes with combo deals than anything else. Sighting in a 270 dead on at 100yds is a waste of trajectory.I use the cheater method. Put my rifle in the sighting vise, get crosshairs sitting on bullseye, then pull out bolt, and look down the barrel. Adjust the scope until they both line up on target. This won't put you on the bullseye, but it'll usually get you on paper.
If you are using a lever gun, this method is worthless.![]()
