Wife actually asked me to take her with me when I go deer hunting:eek: I guess as long as I dont ever let her hold my gun there is no reason for mr green jeans to try and give her a ticket just for tagging along right? this is a huge step for her, 5 years ago she didnt even want me to hunt and kill "those cute little inocent bambi's":rof2:

The 20 or so page booklet on deer and turkey hunting addresses this. It has to do with the definition of hunting. Basically, if someone "helps" in the process of taking game, they need a tag. Filled tag is OK.
Don't have the booklet with me now, but would be easy to look up.

As a side note. I certainly understand this forum and the asking of many questions. However, I must admit that I often chuckle at the hunting gurus that ask questions that are answered in the most basic of publications. We should all read it each year as a refresher.

PS - Not knocking the author of this post or anyone else in particular - Just an observation and comment.

I've found that the booklet is not too clear on many issues.:02:

[rquote=1511574&tid=105413&author=knockemdeadd]so TJ, after you shoot your deer, the handing her the knife part, aint gonna get it.

better get her a license :D:woot:[/rquote]

That is the exact problem, she would not be "aiding in anyway", however it is left to discretion of the agent, and since there is question I guess it is fair to say that it is likely that an agent would say she was and thus illegal. Which basically will keep her from going this year. Since it would require geting the mentor license as well and she just wanted to go once to watch. Second I make her spend money she will back out and say she will wait. :lame:

I understand what you are saying, occasionally I ask questions even though I know where to find the answer, why? because it reminds other people that may have fogot to ask the question before doing it.
In this case, I think what we would do would be legal, but the enforcemtn of the law is to gray and could result in trouble.

She doesn't need a tag as long as she just is observing the hunt.

Now if you say "honey walk thru the woods and drive those deer at the other end of the field to me", a different set of circumstances.

She needs no tag to watch, help gut, drag or load a deer up in a vehicle.

Simply said you need a hunting licence if you hunt. No licence needed if you want to watch or just there to take pictures. :pop:

If you are doing nothing wrong then go. It doesn't matter what any agent thinks....it matters what the judge thinks.

Even if you're in the right, it still costs money, time, and time off of work to go to court and win your case. I was arrested (not ticketed, ARRESTED!) for hunting without a license about 10 yrs ago. The agent's "evidence" was a rifle found in a zipped soft case under the back seat of my truck, and a handgun under the front seat. The rifle wasn't even a caliber I'd hunt with, it was a paratrooper model sks with a folding stock and bayonet. Since I lived 6 hrs away from where I was arrested I chose to forfeit my bond and plead guilty, as going to court would have cost more (in gas, time, and hotel bill) than the fine did.[rquote=1511863&tid=105413&author=ad870]

I feel your pain....we had a situation where we were in the right and we chose to go to court. My friend had to drive 6 hours for the court date and it costs him the gas money and a day off work to get here but in the end when we won it felt real good.
