Been reading about some deer hunters that take out 2 1/2 year old 4 pointers . Bigger ranches believe they are cull bucks and will never become anything. [IMG]

Why do you believe that deer is 2 1/2 years old? If you are in a county that has the 4 point restriction, then there will be a small handful of deer that grow old with a 6 point rack. Removing those deer at a young age would do very little to change the genetics of an area.

If you're not in a county with the 4 point restriction and it would make you feel better to kill that deer and use your any deer tag on him, then do it.

If your goal is to shoot big bucks and you're asking my opinion about whether you should shoot that deer or not, no way. In my opinion, if you want to shoot big bucks then you should try letting them all get to at least 3 years old before considering harvest. By then you have an idea what they will actually be, but up until then, they can surprise you a lot.
