Not really that much shorter, just bows.. in which an average of what 40k are killed yearly? and id guess to say the biggest percentage is during a certain period of time.

And here I thought our seasons were mixed up! At least we have a 4 month hunting season.

Since both seasons are open at the same time, you use the tag that fits the method you used when you shot the deer. Bow season and regular Firearms seasons aren't open at the same time. That's why it is like it is. Same with antlerless season, bow season is open, but you can't use a bow tag on a firearms deer, and vice versa.

I guess I don't understand why it's such a big deal anyhow. We've got very liberal seasons with plenty of opportunity to harvest plenty of deer if we hunt all methods. Which, I for one am fortunate enough to do.:cheers:

Yes... only 10 day bowseason.

That makes really good sense but I would add a 10 day atlatl season also or them deers could run amok.

as i have read in a another post here, isnt it mostly luck, what tree you're standing by????? so why in the heck cant you use a method you are most compfortable with?? i keep hearing bout keepin the herd in check, so keep it that way with a bow or gun, whats the difference, still gettin accomplished what MCD wants. Personally i think its all bout revenue, making people buy more tags. Like the youth season, if your child wants to hunt thats great!!! However if you are not a hunter, you still have to buy a tag to take them, as the regs. say, a "properly licenced hunter", and before anyone says let them go with someone that is, well then either they must not have kids, or for some strange reason dont want to be in the woods with thier kids,,just sayin

i agree we can kill some deers, but you're not understandin what im saying. if you can fill a FIREARM ANY DEER TAG WITH A BOW DURING A CERTAIN 10 DAYS, WHY CANT YOU A COUPLE WEEKS LATER? SAME PRINCIPLE.

like ive already said, if it were IL and you got 2 bucks instead of 3, i wouldn't be askin this. and wouldn't care. or if you couldnt fill one during firearm season with a bow i wouldnt be askin this

Lungbuster I understand your question completely. As to the reasoning behind the current Reg I really have no idea. I think for the most part it is to sell tags (revenue) to those who only hunt with bows that want to hunt during gun season.

I fell the same way LB44 . I guess they think they gave us our chance during rifle season. You would really think you should during ML season due to them both being primitive methods. The only reason I think they let bow hunters hunt rifle because they let XBows hunt rifle and like JJ said. I would like to kill 3 bucks with my bow a year, but then when you hear it like that, doesn't it kinda sound excessive, when you could just go shot another doe.

I really have no idea as to the reasoning behind it, but I for one am glad it is that way. If it was the same as rifle season, then you would not be able to use your bow tags during muzzleloader season. I filled my anydeer firearms tag, so I wouldn't be able to bowhunt(for a buck) during ML season. I'm happy that I will be able to bowhunt those days.

IMO, you should get 2 buck tags a year and be able to fill them with any legal method during the prescribed seasons. except only 1 buck with a firearm.
