It was today at the Litton Center.

After a couple hour talk everyone went to look at their blinds.

Savannah didnt draw the blind she was wanting...BUT the one she got is just East of #2.And the sign was very impressive.
They were cutting the corn while we were there...Savannah's blind is in a cornfield that had mowed lanes through...I'd rather had that than the cut corn.

I had to get a few kids really riled up telling them about the disabled hunt stories...Then telling the kids that had our's and Longbranch's blinds last year them stories.

At about 1:00 everyone met at the makeshift range to qualify.
They have to shoot 3 shots in a 6 inch circle at 50 yards...
Sounds easy but the were a few kids that seemed a little intimdated with all the people around them, waiting and watching.
By the shooting we saw while there, they have chosen some real good sharp shooters for the job of population control.

Just after the meeting I had a guy come up to me and he had noticed my MWT can ****** and Buck was there sporting the orange VECtor hat...
It was member bucksnguns with his son.Great to meet you two btw.

A BIG THANKS TO MDC,CLAY COUNTY PARKS AND CORP OF ENGINEERS FOR HAVING THIS HUNT!!!!

Here's a few pics from the range.

Mr.Wyatt himself!

Here's Savannah waiting for the clear whistle to retrieve her target. There on the table is that oblong, triangle deal,it's made by hornady and it's a shooting rest. And imo it's the beezneez!

Happy Savannah with Dave Wyatt.

One more thing I found out...This will be David Wyatt's last managed hunt. After 22 years with MDC he is retiring.
I don't know how long he's held the position he's in now...But that man has changed alot of kid's lives in the Kansas City area.
THANKS FOR EVERYTHING DAVID!!!

 I'm really pumped for you guys! Wish we were there too, but so goes our luck!

That last picture with David is a good one! He's done a great job getting kids involved with the outdoors in those 22 years, no doubt about it! :trophy:

Looks like a great day of preperation.

David has put on a bunch of youth events in the KC area in that length of time. Between Smithville and Burr oaks he does several per year at just those 2 areas. I hope he has a great retirement ,,,,he will be a tough one to replace.

I TOTALLY AGREE HENRY!

I also heard that a spring turkey hunt was canceled for next year.
I believe it is the Burr Oak youth turkey hunt...Dunno.

One thing that is TOTALLY screwed up about the youth Smithville hunt next weekend is there was a typo in the deer reg book saying the kids are on 4pt rule...
All the mdc crew there said they tried as hard as possible to change it but their bosses said no!

So the kids have to abide by the 4pt rule when they are hunting in a managed hunt for popualtion control!!!
THE HUNT IS EVEN IN CLAY COUNTY WHICH DOES NOT EVEN HAVE ARs!!!

Don't bother my daughter but IMHO it's just not fair to the kids.

Hey Chairman,

You and Jack was in #2 when you saw them bucks right?

She is in #36.Which is east of #2 in the closest corn field.

And we saw abit of fresh buck sign...And some BIG rubs.

I sure wish she could get a shot at that non-typ!!!

Well,It's over!

We definately had a GREAT time...

The kids set a record this weekend by taking 31 deer.Weather was great.
There was only two antlered bucks takin. One of them was a real nice 9pt and it was the boys first buck or maybe first deer.Either way he was happy!

For Savannah and I the weekend was slow but at least we saw deer.
Saturday morning we saw nothing!Pretty depressing in a place like that.
But that evening we had a doe and a bunch of lil ones in front of us.The doe picked us out immedietly and would just face us and stare...She was only 50yds out so I told Savannah to shoot her in the throat patch if she wanted...And kuddos to her for not wanting to take that shot!
A little later a buck came out but we just could not positively count 4 on one side, she did not shoot. It was a dandy buck but just couldnt tell.
Now this morning we set where GOGOP sat and saw a doe zip by near lake without a chance...Then an hour later a buck popped up in the same spot...When he was lookin at us I could not count the points,so once again she can't shoot...And when he did turn he was outty.
Then to this evening. We were back where we sat last night.Pretty early two does and a small illegal buck comes out...She gets ready and at 50yrds she hit it and it ran into the woods...Was a little worried on that shot.
About 15 minutes later 9 more does and fawns came out.She waited maybe 5 minutes to see if a buck was coming, then she picked the biggest doe and dropped her in her tracks.

As soon as it hit the ground we got up,called to get help for retrieving then went to look for the first one she shot...It ran maybe 40yds total. It was right at the edge of the woods.
If it was dry we coulda drove right to the deer.BUT things really thawed out today.BAAAAAAD SLOPPY!!!
MDC had a mule and 4x4s.And the Corp was usin their trucks if needed.Sure made for an easy recovery!

A BIG THANKS TO ALL THE MDC,CORP AND PARKS PEOPLE WHO HELPED OUT!!!
Also thanks to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for servin lunch on both days!!!:claphands::claphands::claphands:

Savannah's bringin home the bacon so to speak...She's killed three deer so far.Buck's killed one...And momma and me aint killed none...BUT...I was there for two of Savannah's,Buck's and then GOGOP's killings. So my void is not too empty.

Oh yeah!!!Dawn was at a wrestling meet of Buck's today at Lathrop or Lawson...Anyway she slipped on the ice and broke her wrist...She's home and in a cast...Gotta see a surgeon soon.

And there was only one deer lost...That I know of.

I got all the details of where it was and where it went...I'm gonna take my dog up there and look for it.From the sounds of it,it was a pretty good buck.I know the boy that shot it was pretty upset.
Would be really cool if I could find it for him!

I was gonna go today but Dawn has to go to a dr. to talk about surgery on her wrist she broke yesterday.Gonna be nasty today anyway!
