Let me save you some heartache-

The SKS was never meant to accept detachable mags. I believe that Norinco did sell one that used AK mags for awhile, but the receiver was milled completely different. Don't waste your money on something that will be unreliable. With practice you'll be able to load it with stripper clips at a very quick rate. The SKS doesn't lend itself to scope mounting either, but try these sights:

They are reliable and similar in design to AR sights.

I am not downing your weapon, so please don't be offended. The SKS was meant to be a easily operated, utterly reliable fighting tool, and for the most part it shines in that role.

No personal experience, but did some reading for my upcoming conversion. From what I understand,in stock configuration the detachable mags have problems.I've read that there are positive results when a tapco(t-6) stock is installed and using the tapco mags-20 rounders seem to be the favorite.

I have to agree. I orginally bought my SKS to do some long range shooting, 200+ yards, like a poor man's AR-15, but it's not. Without some serious gunsmithing, there doesn't seem to be a reliable scope mounting method. So, I removed the scope, installed a peep site, and added a Tapco stock. Now is is a very deadly short range gun (100 yards) and will be great when the zombies come.

i have no intention of any long range shooting with it. come to think of it, i've never shot anything long range even with my hunting rifles. its just a mess around gun. i can see where mixing manufacturers of stocks and mags could cause problems. i look at it this way, i'm going to buy the tapco stock anyway, whats another 20 bucks for a 20rd detach mag? if it doesnt work, its a 10 minute deal to swap out the original fixed mag. if it works however...well...nuff said. i'll most likely buy the reciever cover picatinny rail replacement and see how that works. theres always ebay for the parts i dont like/use.

novichunter...what method of scope mounting did you use that wasnt "reliable"?
