Size of rock for low water crossing

What size of rock should I lay for a low water crossing, base is mostly sand and banks are deep black dirt. It’s a seasonal creek, but has tremendous flow at times.

I used rip wrap in mine 24 years ago. It's still solid.

ours(minus the black dirt) sounds much like yours and we have a bunch of scrap paving bricks I'd wager there is a PU truck load at least..if you starting from scratch I'd start with nothing less that 4" and a lot of it

The bigger the better. I dumped rocks, bricks, partial cinder blocks plus a few other things in my ditch. Had a good down pour and it all went down stream leaving a 3 foot ditch that I can't cross with my ATV.

Should have pour some bags of cement on top of it.

Or just built a bridge. :wave1:

Doesn't matter eventually it will wash out or around. Can't stop mother nature.

We’ve put several smooth wall pipes on top of some creek gravel, covered with gravel up to desired height, poured a well reinforced slab over it, let it cure a week, pull the pipes out the side and let the next gully washer displace the gravel. Simple but effective way to build an inexpensive bridge

Rip rap will hold for a long time. Put extra up stream it will wash into the crossing.

Don't ya just love litter bugs?? In streams no less....
I just put 17 ton of 5" in my crossing. We've owned the place for 15 years & finally had to replinish what the previous farmer put in my crossing. I'm gonna get another load before winter to leave at top of the bank to replinish as needed. This springs flooding really took a tole on my crossing

FYI....it's all on my land and stayed on my land. Anything else you want to complain about the way I do things this morning?
