went to hang a stand today and had a scare, its a cheap ladder stand i bought from a damaged freight wholesaler, the stand came from sportsman guide, needless to say it was missing some parts.....i had a friend help weld me up the stand but you could tell the stand wasnt the nicest nor the sturdiest.....actually its a p.o.s

heeler75 was out helping me and luckily he was because i got scared when the ladder collapsed as i got to the top, normally i lean the ladder stand up and ratchet the top to the tree then come down and attach the kick brace back to the ladder, well this thing bowed straight in toward the tree and gave way....we got it bent back out straight but im not getting back in that thing until i get some better ladder supports......remember all to be safe and bring someone with you...i got out of the stand ok and didnt fall but it made my heart pitter patter needless to say i dont think i would pay for a stand of this quality ever again, luckily i got a good deal on it and i think i can make it work with some extra bracing :2thumbsup:

Parker[/rquote]for sure i will, problem is the brace was missing in the beginning, had another stand i bought from same place that was built like a tank and it never budged, guess i should of known the ladder pieces were light weight when heeler wasnt breathing real hard after walking in :rof2:

Close calls are second chances....do it right every time from now on.

I got a scare myself about 15 years ago....just did something really stupid....hate to admit it but got in a hurry and opened the ratchet while still standing on the platform of an alumilock hang on stand. Don't know what was going on in my head when I did it but that stand shifted as the ratchet loosened and I slammed it shut again before the stand dumped me. Then I sat down and shook for 5 minutes.

Glad to hear your o.k and good think you had a buddy there....I've been living to recklessly for years now hanging stands...decided I've pushed my luck long enough and that next year I'm going to be extra carefull. Funny how when your younger you think your invincible but as you get older and have kids things take on a whole new perspective.

I've never hunted out of a ladder stand but I'm thinking about investing in a couple next year.

I've had that brace save me before, Leaned the ladder up, put the brace in and climbed to the top and it pulled back away from the tree, bu the brace held it from comming all the way back, I was able to get it leaned back into the tree, but it was scary for a couple seconds
