My father in law gave me a S&W 22 revolver. He never takes care of of guns, so it's not in the best of shape.

Anyway what I can decipher it is a K22 and a 4 screw. I have searched by the serial number and and get conflicting answers. Either it was made in 1947, or in the 60s, I'm sure I'm reading it wrong.

Anybody good with these that can help me figure this out? I really would like to kno exactly what I have, when it was made and approx value, I'm not looking to sale or anything, just like to have an idea.

Pretty sure that's a 1947 gun, with a 5 digit serial #. The K stamped on there is a post war deal. I'd say 1947 is a safe bet. :wave1:

@callaojoe not to contradict you at all but I have a 1932 edition (second year production) in original box that while it has no K on the frame the box is marked K-22 Outdoorsman. So are the early pre-war models not considered K series? I really am not all that educated on these myself and would like to learn more. I know the Outdoorsman preceded the Masterpiece which begat the Model 17 or so I believe. Please correct me if I am wrong on this.

I was talking about the "K" stamped in the butt..... Not the K designation of the model. They didn't start stamping the K there til post war.

No biggie, I am no expert on them, I did some looking into them a while back for a friend who was asking..... Neat pistols.....

Nice little revolver. I carry one when running traps. Depending on condition it is worth around $500 based on your pics. Add another $200 if you have the box and SAT (Sight Adjustment Tool) or as most people call them “lil screwdriver”.
