“Top of the line” rest, bag in a range bag. El Cheapo Athlon 3x9.

Eyeballed a quick bore sight at 50, fired a shot, made an adjustment, fired another. The three shot groups were with some .22’s. FYI, the bottom group was my American Rimfire in .22 mag.

Moved to 100 yards. First three shots, Federal blue box 180 grain soft points. 1.65” CTC

Made an adjustment, fired three more. Hornady Superformance SST165 grains. Exact same size. I expected better, closer inspection of the ammo revealed damaged tips. But still, I will take it.

Finished up with Federal Gold Medal 168 grain SMK’s. That is 0.68” CTC. Measured edge to edge, 0.98”. Either way it’s sub-MOA.

I was in s bit of a rush that day, did not check my action screws or even my scope base. I borrowed el cheapo 3x9 from my muzzle loader and took her to the range.

I will post an update as soon as I get a better rest, better glass, adjust the trigger and torque everything to spec.

Overall, I’m thrilled to death. Single stack mag feeds flawlessly. 3 position bolt lock safety. Handsome, cerakote, brake works good, decent trigger. I love this rifle.

$599. I got that, an almost $50 box of Superformance .308, and a cold beverage for something like $720 out the door.

Everyone with a Remington 700 in .308 seems to say 168gr. I built one for my son and his first 6 shots were 1/2 MOA at 100yds. He rocked a doe and a 9 point this year with Hornady ELD match I think it was, very close to their TAP ammo. The doe laid in her tracks and the buck rolled 15ft down a hill from where he was shot.

I picked up some 180 grain Winchester Powerpoints, 175 grain Federal Terminal Ascent, 185 grain Federal Berger OTM, 168 grain Federal Berger Hybrid Hunter, and 168 grain Hornady Superformance Match.

I have heard a 10 twist .308 likes 175 grains better than 168. I don’t know what a difference 7 grains makes in length, but I got a variety. They will all kill deer and pigs I am sure.

After all this I will probably settle on 180 grain Federal blue box ammo, because it is cheap and locally available and shoots good enough to kill animals. Or more likely, just sight in with the most accurate one and not buy another box until I use it all up 😂

dang it man you have a new rifle just in ammo $$ there. Years ago Hornaday made a "custom" SPBT round I think it was an like an American Whitetail just boat tailed. It must of been on Optics Planet or DEVOR or some such but anyway I bought bunches of boxes. I think 165grn maybe. Wife's A-Bolt Mico LOVES them

I got more in the scope and rings than I have in the gun, and i didn’t even buy them new. Like new in box, new to me.

I think the gun deserves it, my gut is telling me it’s gonna do very well now that i have everything torqued to spec.

Before long, I will be rolling my own and I will probably invest more in equipment and primers than I have in any gun I have ever owned. No point in owning a rifle without ammo.

I have three shotguns and I paid less than $200 each. But I have thousands of dollars worth of high velocity steel #4’s in my closet. Why? Because I can legally use it anywhere I can hunt with a shotgun in Missouri.

But to be honest i have this variety of loads in part due impulsive buying. I went to bass pro looking for a gift and walked out with over $150 in ammo

Any updates? I got one of these rifles a while back and it shoots very well! I bought it for a back up rifle for a bear hunt. I fired 2 boxes for PMC factory 150 grain ammo to accumulate some brass to load. The PMC stuff shot well enough that I could have used it and been a happy camper, hovering right around an inch at 100 yards. The first load I tried was a winner, a 150 grain Nosler partition, a Healthy dose of Varget and a Federal GM210M to light it off. I sighted in an inch high at 100 then moved back to 200 and shot this group.

For a rifle with less than 50 rounds down the pipe, I'll take it! I scoped it with a Leupold VX3I 2.5-8 and swapped out the muzzle brake out for a Banish 30 suppressor . The only complaint I have with the rifle so far is the trigger and it's not bad just a little heavy for my taste. I adjusted the trigger as low as it would go and got it down to 3lbs. 4ozs., it's a nice clean break I'm just something of a trigger snob 😎

I wish. I don’t have time for anything at all besides working and fixing. I have tried to go back to the range but let’s just say it was at capacity.

I closed on my first home though, I have rented my whole life but now i am moving into a nice big home on a few acres. It will be no problem to set up a 100 yard range after we move in :)

Congrats on the new house!

not sure where ya at but I got a range in my back yard 100 &200 yrds with a shooting bench (moberly area) with that suppressor you wont freak the dog out so your more than welcome
I'm pretty far south of you but I appreciate the offer. I have no problem finding a place to shoot, the range pictured above is a public range that offers nice covered benches, 25, 50, 100 and 200 yard ranges and is hardly ever crowded. I also have access to a few private ranges that are usually not crowded either.

She’s a shooter. Love that rifle. Gonna be a killin’ a lotta critters on our little homestead with the .22 mag. Got a big old possum likes to hang out on the porch, he’s going in some possum poppers pretty soon lol.
