Rough year ahead?

A lot of refuge birds will be missing the corn this year. Will it move them out quicker or spread the birds out? My thoughts are semo will have a good year with rice in the fields the rest of the state is in question since food on land or water will be limited.

I am hoping the field hunting is good around Mark Twain this year. I think it should be.

I'm hoping it spreads them out and makes them actually act like ducks and not feed lot cattle!!!!! Have to actually look for food and not just fly 100 yards to the next 100 acreas of flooded corn

The birds will still use the refuges. There is PLENTY of food available still. Flooded corn doesnt hold birds in the area longer than they normally would be, it just concentrates them for part of the time they are here. Flooded corn makes up such a small amount of duck habitat that its negligible to migrations.
Waters have receded in most areas and millet and smartweed will start growing. I look for it to be a very good season. Ducks that have to move to find food are ducks that can actually be killed.
I believe that "small amount of habitat" really pizzes off the Arkansas folks!

And so are the local mom and pop hotel/motel operators, eateries, gas stations, marine dealers, and all the other small business owners that catered to and depended on OOS hunters being in Arkansas for the entire 60 day season.

Sad deal!

Arkansas game and fish must be run by people with truck stop biology degrees.

I believe it will be a good season. I'd like to see the thin water freeze about Nov 10. Would make for a great season I believe.

As long as it doesnt turn off bone dry we should be good. Last time this happened we had excellent hunting. @TATER , my grandpa and I sat by a giant cottonwood tree without a plant in sight and shot tons of birds. It was like huntingn on the moon...
