How’s she shoot with the shorter barrel? Thinking it would make a sweet youth gun..

Have no ideal I am selling this for a friend who father passed away a couple of years ago. I have owned several 788 over the years and all were good shooters.

$400 is little high.
They sold new in 1979 with a 4x scope for $179.

Price seems about right if you consider inflation....... lol
He's a little lower than they're asking for them on Gunbroker. As said above, 40 year old prices don't carry much weight.

So does this mean you will sell me a Marlin 39 A for $100.00 The sold new in 1950 for $52.00?

As always folks I come to a price by the current market, the gun is far from perfect and it is a carbine. the $400.00 was based from here https://www.gunbroker.com/Rifles/search?Keywords=Remington 788&Sort=13&PageSize=24
If you want to drive here to Butler you can have the gun for $350.00

I wasn't trying to pi$$ on your parade.
I'm surprised the 788 is worth that much now.
No checkering, no scope, plain Jane rifle that did shoot well.
I'm surprised Remington only made them a few years. They obviously weren't too proud of them or they'd still be in production, don't you think?
If you do some research, you will find the 788 had a faster lock up time and was more accurate than the 700, and the 700 cost a third more. Remington realized the sale of the 788 was cutting into the sale of the higher priced 700. The actions are in high demand by bench rest shooters. In fact probably the best american made 22 bolt action was the same action the Remington 580,581,582, and the 541-S and 541-T not to mention the 540X was used by the military for their trainers. Most of the 580 series go for $300.00 plus and the S and T are a $1000.00, I have a t and a 582 and would probably buy this 788 but I now hunt with a Howa due to the fact the bolt locks down on safe. When you walk in great distance to set up to call coyotes I do not want the bolt to fall open. My first 22-250 was a Remington 788 bought in 1980 by an 18 year old, let you imagination take over when thinking about all the game that was killed with that rifle.
