If either is a magnum classification it will say so on it. I have a regular 1100 Rem and it just says on the receiver Remington 1100 and the barrel says 2 3/4 ONLY. If you have a magnum of either the barrel or the receiver it will say on it that it shoots 3 inch shells on the barrel or says Remington 1100 Magnum on the side of the receiver. If you do have a magnum receiver you will have trouble shooting most all 2 3/4 inch shells unless it is a high brass magnum load and even then it will not cycle to the second shot.

I agree. I can't remember off the top of my head but my 1100 I think has the M at the beginning of the serial number and it's definitely only a 2 3/4" gun.
