looking to buy the oldest granddaughter a Savage "lady hunter". Last year it seems the calibers where limited to 243,7-08,6.5 and 308, this year it seems to be also include 223, 22-250 ,270 and Yikes 30-06..

My son has a 7-08 so we are familiar with that caliber as well as 243,270,308 and 06 what I'm not familiar with is the 6.5 and oddly enough is the cheapest option from Bud's Gun shop.

For those who don't know the "Lady Hunter it is a tweener between a youth and a regular sized rifle much akin to the Browning "Micro"

So tell me in your real world experiences the good bad and the ugly of the 6.5

Yeah, that rifle Bandit found is about as good as you will see. You can get the Syn Stocked apex hunter with 20" barrel for less, but not much. And, it has full length LOP of 13.75"

It is a good gun. I did a quickie on it, just got better glass for it and a couple more loads. When time permits i will put it through its paces

6.5 creedmoor is nearly a ballistic twin to the 6.5 swede. It is a good cartridge but all us luddites like to joke about it.

Good luck finding ammo for 6.5 swede. Creedmoor is available everywhere. Also you can hand load creedmoor with a small rifle primer.

Ruger American Gen II with the brake is a cream puff on the shoulder, but also pretty loud.

If I might make a recommendation, the ruger hawkeye compact in walnut is a better gun than the savage lady hunter and is available in 7mm-08 for a fair price. 12.5” length of pull, 16.5” barrel, weighs 6 pounds with walnut stock and classic style. You should be able to find one for about $900-$1,000.
