I guess it would depend on your definition of quality. Does big buck management equal a quality and healthy deer herd
Quality would be a balanced age structure in the deer herd. There’s an obvious difference on how many deer reach maturity in IA vs MO.I guess it would depend on your definition of quality. Does big buck management equal a quality and healthy deer herd
How would it be any different (for improving age structure) with timing of the firearms any deer season in southern MO?Can’t effing compare the Southern Missouri Ozarks to Iowa or your crop land/CRP farm for god sakes. A blanket December season for all of Missouri would just be stupid.
I don’t think I can agree with this, if there wasn’t a slaughter season in November deer would be readily visible in early December. You’d be hard pressed to see a deer in December. They simply aren’t pouring into the 50 acres of standing beans out of the 100 acres of CRP ground like the you northern guys seems to think is the normal.
I beg to differ. Hardly the norm. Have you actually hunted December? Specifically a December after the woods haven’t been pounded out for 12 days? Some of my best opportunities/hunts have been hunting big timber after Thanksgiving. Mid/late mornings the first week of December are dynamite if you have done your homework. You’d be hard pressed to see a deer in December. I would be firmly against that, at least until I am 65.too cold no thankyou. I think if your 65+ you should be able to hunt Youth Season. Call it Alternative Age Season
You would need to have some one set up the blind or tree staand, clear shooting lanes, carry the gun mounted tri-pod plus thegun or cross-bow if you want to hunt during the youth seasontoo cold no thankyou. I think if your 65+ you should be able to hunt Youth Season. Call it Alternative Age Season
NegativeDon’t you lease out your property every year?
I wouldnt be opposed to that at all as i will never hunt down there. But i would hate for the rest of the state to miss out on what could make all of MO a top whitetail stateCurious, what is “big timber” to you? I dare say your definition is vastly different than mine?
Can’t compare north MO or IA or KS and deer activity in December to southern MO.
I suggest the same as turkeys. Divide that state into two zones and have two seasons at different times. Pick if you want to hunt the north zone or south zone when you buy your tag and then that is when and where you hunt.
