Well I cleaned the rifle up and put it back in the cabinet today. It may be a while before it gets to hunt again. I was just not into rifle season this year at all. The deer in my area went into lock down mode once the orange army invaded the woods. I havnt seen anything! Very dissapointing, I might just become a strictly bow hunter...so much more enjoyable IMO

Rifle season sure does ruin the woods, doesn't it!

I hear ya! I absolutely HATE rifle season.

It sure screws some things up after opening day.

With me, it just makes the hunt more exciting not being able to pick off anything I please @ 300 yards away.:D

I have nothing against the rifle crowd, my wife is one of them. LOL

If I do go into the woods with a gun in hand, it is a ML.

I guess I just like making things hard on myself.

Honestly, I don't believe that deer go into any lockdown just because of rifle season opening up. They are used to loud noises from farmers all the time. But the high pressure areas do change their habits no doubt. I think what you are noticing is just the rut slowing down almost to a halt. They aren't chasing and are either bedding down with does or just coming out of rut. Maybe not though, I could be wrong on that.

I've been telling myself for the last 3 years (bought the gun before deer season 3 years ago) that I am going to sell my rifle.. This year its gone my dad said he wants it so after christmas sometime he's going to buy it.. I have hunted maybe 4 days in 4 years with a rifle.. only hunted 4.5 hours this year. Bow only for me here on out.

Its not the noises at all. The pressure from the orange army. Rut is not slowing down, just ask the guys over in KS, IL or up in IA. Its just pressure. Happens atw our place every year. Really really good the few days before gun season and by sunday evening or monday, the deer are nocturnal again. Only deer we see are moving because they were bumped. Oh well, what do ya do.

[rquote=1481077&tid=103553&author=mathewsshooter89]It would make my day if they done away with rifle season then the stinkin neighbors from the city that come to there farm 2 days a year wouldnt be able to shoot the 2 1/2 year old ten pointers that gets passed on our place!!!:mad2::mad2:[/rquote]

if shooting 2.5 year old deer makes you stink then I smell pretty bad. :scared:

I am not trying to pick on your post but if your stinking neighbors only get to hunt 2 days a year then maybe they shoot what they can and if it is their place then I cant see they wronged you anyway. :whiteflag:

[rquote=1481081&tid=103553&author=hun10]I love my bowhuntin same as yall, but I still enjoy the rifle. [/rquote]

Same here. My 1st year with a bow, and after my 1st kill i thought that`s it, I`m done, and then I took another with a bow. As rifle season got closer, and all my friends rifle hunt, and none bow, I couldn`t see not hanging with my buds if nothing else during firearms. But I did end up tagging out none the less:D

Which ever season it is I hit it full force. If there was a season with rocks and slingshots I'd be buying me the best on the market. The deer are out there 24/7 and the urge to breed takes over and the bucks start moving and that is when you need to be sitting on your favorite stand. If I had to I'd sit from sun up to sun down to get my deer. I've taken two bucks this year. One with my bow and one with my rifle....both felt the same at the time of the shot taken. But the trailing up and finding my bow kill made me feel more accomplished in my hunting skills I've developed over the years but I still get excited on opening morning of gun season. If I loose that feeling I must be dead.......no flowers please.

My farm is surrounded on three sides by guys that come down for opening weekend everyyear and shoot everything that moves including some really nice young bucks. And the neighbors that arent from the city dont shoot 2.5 year old deer that are the easiest deer to kill in the world. Just ticks me off that i try to manage the farm and the bucks cross the fence and get blasted the second they step onto the city guys land. That dont happen during bow season

you must be a better hunter than me if those deer are that easy to kill. If they are not crossing your land to hunt then I think they are doing fine.
