JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - A Missouri agency is gathering public feedback on a proposed hike in hunting and fishing fees.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Friday that the Conservation Department wants to raise nonresident deer hunting licenses from $225 to $265 starting next year.

Nonresidents also could see a hike in turkey license fees from the current $190 to $224.

I’m not against raising license fees per say.I could definitely see the benefit if it would help conservation. But I’m pretty much against any raise in a fee which is more or less just another form of a tax without transparency.I think all state agencies that charge fees wether it’s for hunting, traffic, tolls, etc etc should have full transparency on how that money is used. That way if the common folk see well we gave them more money and all they did was give themselves raises at the top and wasted the rest we could start voting people out of office if possible or doing something to show how thankful we are about their ill use of funds.
For example by raising just non resident license $40 they would generate like $1.88 million extra money. Why not stick that in a fund and save it and start buying pieces of land and create more public land hunting within the state,or acquire land to turn into a duck hunting paradise once all the deer have CWD,etc etc.Put it to good use making the hunting and resource better
They are pretty much out of the land buying business ....They barely can afford upkeep on what they own now

Sounds good to me cause it’s cheap as hell to hunt, fish, and do whatever in Louisiana where my residency currently is ha.Still won’t change the fact though that the residents of the great state of Missouri will get to see zero benefit of any increase because the “Guvment” sucks at everything
Peasants arent Native !!

MDC puts out annual reports that are more transparent than most government agencies.

They waste tons of money. They don’t need another dime. They do lots of good things but very little to help habitat around the state.
Conservation is .6% of the budget for the state. If that don’t make you feel warm and fuzzy then nothing will.

Elk were native to Missouri at one time. They were exterpated from Missouri in the late 1800s through over hunting and no management.
The elk native back then were not Rocky Mountain elk ,that has been reintroduced recently since 2011
