Pretty interesting buck behavior last night.

Well I seeded a plot I sprayed last week, then went glassing a couple areas. Spied what I believe were 5 popers at 3 different spots, none over 140, but the behavior of two was pretty interesting.

As I pulled into spot #3 to glass an overgrown power cut there were does and fawns about 40 yards away and didn't much care about my truck, they were a little jittery, but when I didn't scope them in the crossbow they settled down fine;) I looked to North and there were 3 bucks stepping out about 75 yards to the North of the does (all this was as I was pulling in), the bucks immediately bedded down, but they were in waist high thin overgrown grass (2 were nice easy 130, but not over 140), I just watched them for about 5 minutes and I feel they sensed they were not hidden well and they jumped up and trotted 30 yards to a head high patch that was maybe as big as a pick-up truck, I could not see them at all. I eased out and went to check another area, then came back 15 minutes later and they were on their feet munching in the waist high stuff again, but it was getting low light so they were more comfortable.

Had they been bedded initially when I pulled in the 1st time, my guess is I would have never spotted them, but since I watched them bed the 1st time, of course I could find them in the somewhat tall grass.

nothing Earth shattering here, but my guess is the antlers are starting to harden and they are beginning to be more cowardly and less brazen.

I know it seems like the poaching starts as soon as the horns are hard around here :banging:

Cowardly ? ,,They are just aware what is on top of their heads makes some people do stupid things because of said head gear

yes, in my opinion they act far more like cowards most of their hard horn days. call them smart cowards until their testosteroney takes over COMPLETELY!
More like cautious because they are aware of a target on there head

Lol....yeah...deer have learned to reason.....they know that poachers are after their antlers. Next we'll see bucks running into stuff head first on purpose trying to knock their antlers off.
