Pick A Browning Trail Cam!

2457 Views 41 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  hazelvillebucks
I received a letter from Browning CS advising me that my 2 Dark Ops cams can't be fixed. To costly and they don't have the required parts to fix the 5 plus yo cams. So I've been offered a list of New "discounted" cameras to choose from:

1. BTC-4P Command Ops Pro
2. BTC-5HDX Strike Force Extreme
3. BTC-6HDX Dark Ops Extreme
4. BTC-7A Recon Force Advantage
5. BTC-8A Spec Ops Advantage

Curious if anyone currently owns any of these newer models? Or can share any info...... Appreciate It!

Get the one with the most monkeys in it. Should be listed in the specs but you might need a decoder to interpret that part of the specs.

I have #2 and #3
2 has red glow, 3 has no-glow both seem to work okay, they take pictures that is all I ask of them

Trail cameras have been linked to cwd at ground zero in Macon. They also spread new world pigs, destroy Turkey habitat, and release transient coyotes.

IIRC the model that you and Hazel recommended was the 2016 BTC-5 Elite? Did it also have strike force in the name?
I was actually thinking of giving Browning a call and requesting the 2016 model for replacement....

THE DECODER appears when you look at he night time pictures. You are safe because the Browning cams are a home refuge for the CYBER MONKEYS first seen in a trail cam in the Moultrie 2011 m100.
I had a 2012 MOULTRIE M80, possibly one of the most popular cams of all time. But mine seemed to have a bad case of buck fever. Before the year of Warranty was up i sent it back for a long list of reasons that i saw.But mainly because i knew it would haunt me if i did not send it back.
iT WAS REPLACED BY A M80 XT. I put it on bread cam duty , in a setup where it might grow legs and walk away. It did not take long to find that the xt was the 360 degree attitude cam. I ADDED 2 MORE OF THE BLACK FLASH M80 BLK and 2 m100 xt was still getting really nice pictures.
It was not until 2013 that THE CYBER MONKEYS WERE DISCOVERED IN TRAIL CAMS. Recoynx offered a new set of irs for a nominal price and a new firmware update unleashed the monkey into the world of trail cams.
What the hey i am talking about is that B.M.[ BEFORE MONKEYS] all commercial trail cams operated with the camera adjusting for a good picture in the light of the day but in the dark of the night one had to set the cam up in its sweet spot.A small area outside of where one was totally open to the twin demons of ir burn and MR. Motion blur.
THE CYBER MONKEYS and the great advancement of cams becoming the tools we need were first found in the recoynx 600. The m80 xt i had i thought was doing so well because i had put a film over the ir.s but it was the monkeys iso speed always 100 but trigger duration of 1/20 , 1/24 , and 1/30 OF A SEC.
When the MOULTRIE M9OO APPEARED WE HAD A LEGENDARY CAM. i still run 7 of them . But that year a new company appeared it was named BROWNING , their first cam , the recon force was a monkey cam , i still run several of those.
As far as i know Browning , Cuddie back, Recoynx , Stealth , and Moultrie between the years of 2011 and 2013 are the monkey cams.Moultrie for reasons i will never understand took there sword and fell on it in 2014. That left Browning as the chosen one to bring us the tools designed by a very gifted group of Chinese engineers.
Hey Swat it appears your wish is BROWNING'S command. Shortly they will be releasing a cell phone cam that will allow 1 plan to serice 10 cams.
I got off track filling in the decoder info. I THINK THAT CAM NUMBER 2 IS THE BEST OFFERING TO CATCH THE GENIUS oF THE BTC5 HD E. The extreme is the 2018 version of the 2016 btc5 hd e [elite.]
Rat, because of cwd i have not tested a new cam since 2016. It takes lots of picture opportunities to really test a cam and mdc has no plan to be our partner in the fight against cwd.It appears the 2019 version needs to be looked at , just to make sure that the monkey are not being mistreated.the new cam is the btc 5hd apx . IT calls itself the Apex, I have found one thing to be true when dealing with the Browning Monkeys .Start with at least 2 of them no one should be stuke with just 1, OR 1 DOZEN .
Someday it might be possible to have the cyber monkeys in trail cams that are so finely trained that they can detect cwd in their subjects and treat the infected with cyber monkeys that will destroy Bastiams fearless bacterium.

Trail cam does a lot of good but they do not recognize the Monkeys.

THEY HAD REFURBISHED ELITE ON SITE A WHILE BACK. the difference between the 2016 elite nd the 2015 hd is huge. the 2015 was a good cam but it had card acceptance issues , on 6 lithium's it would give15,000 pictures.
The Elite probably gives close to 30,000 pictures. lOSING THE RIGHT TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND MOVE SPILLS OF CORN FROM THE HIGHWAYS WHERE THE CRITTERS CAN GET INTO TROUBLE WITH THE PUBLIC makes getting the number of pictures to determine battery life a hard to accomplish quickly task.
The Springfield site does do some interesting calculations to determine battery life. I was looking at the extreme or maybe the apex testing and they were claiming the cam would take 30 or 35 pictures a day and night for over 17 months. I THINK THAT ADDED UP TO 37,000 pictures from a set of lithium. But the good news is that when one uses quick shot 2 or 3 shot option the irs stay lite the same length of time but one will get 2 or 3 pictures at night instead of 1.
Haze, where did you see that Browning was coming out with something like cuddelink? I was getting ready to buy another Cudde network for the 160.
Can someone give me a brief, non-hazel, explanation of what a cyber monkey is....

Thanks in advance.

It just means that the camera has the ability to make adjustments on night photos. Shutter speed, ISO, etc. This can be seen when you check the properties of the photos. It mainly means your night pics will be better. Less blur, less IR burn, etc.

  • I have gotten away from raving about how good Browning cams are for a while now. I find raving the positive gets as sickening as *****ing about the negative.
  • tHE ONE THING THAT NEEDS TO BE CHECKED OUT IS THE POWER SETTING OF THE FLASH WHICH which is now reported to be preset by the user according to what he expects to get. That appears to be more in line with what recoynx has done with its monkeys. To me browning outdid recoynx when they got the cam setting there and constantly checking on the conditions to where when the opportunity presented itself the cam would come out firing with the correct monkeys already dialed in.
  • DOING THAT also makes it hard to measure power consumption like trail cam pro is trying to do.

I can not find it now.It was a clip from one of the big shows touting one of the new strike force and a defender model with a antenna on it. I WATCHED THE THING BUT REALLY DID NOT LET IT ALL SINK IN. It was claiming the cam would be rolled out a little later.
But there are no defenders listed in the catalog with a antenna. WOULD NEED TO CALL Browning TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON.
