Well the interchangeable caliber thread got me to thinking that it might be fun to start one listing the parent cartridges that other cartridges are built off of. Here are some of the more common ones
Parent .308
Offspring 7mm-08, .260, .243
Parent 7x57 Mauser
Offspring .257 Roberts, 6mm remington, .224 TTH
Parent 30-06
Offspring .280 rem, .270, 25-06
Parent .222 mag
Offspring .204 ruger
I know there are many many more but i will leave some for the rest of you guys. Have fun! Boog

[rquote=1512416&tid=105485&author=Parker]I always thought 30-06 was the parent of .308? Is that incorrect?

Thanks for letting me know. :cheers:

Parker[/rquote]

I thought so too until I looked it up. The 300 Savage is the parent for the 308 Win.

[rquote=1512709&tid=105485&author=JimH]250 / 3000 savage is parent to the 22-250[/rquote]

So...that would make that Savage a Parent to 6mm/.250, also? :shrug:

I neck 22-250 cases up to 6mm, for my 6mm/250...

[rquote=1512750&tid=105485&author=Cook]Man,those older cartridges were spreading their seed around like teenagers are nowadays!:D[/rquote]

I don't think any more so than the 375 H&H.
All the Weatherby Mags, Winchester Magnums (not WSM) and Remington Mags go back to the 375 H&H.
