When I was 12-13 years old my neighbor Gary took me deer hunting with his wife and kids. They had all the snacks we needed and even cooked a warm lunch on the 'ol Coleman cook stove. We didn't care much about scent control back then and we still killed deer. I grew up next door to Gary and his wife and when I moved to the country we were still within the same rural neighborhood.

Today as I go out I'll be praying for Gary. Today is the last day of the 2009 rifle season and more than likely HIS last day of gun season too. However, he's spending the day and the rest of his days in bed. Gary is going to be leaving us because cancer has gotten the best of him.

I hope I get to go to his house tonight to show him pics of a nice deer. More importantly though, I hope that I get to hunt for many more years, thanking God for Gary and his introducing me to deer hunting.

Gob Bless you Gary and keep strong:innocent:

Thanks for sharing Haz, very touching story.

Prayers for you and Gary, may the good Lord shine on you today as you attempt to take that big one in Gary's memory.
