Bend a sharp loop in it and see if it cracks the material over the core. If it doesn’t crack from dry rot, stretch it out and try to remove the memory from it from being coiled on the reel so long. Give it a quick wipe down with some line cleaner/floatant and go fish it. If it sinks quickly then the outer shell is compromised and won’t be of much use.
