I can focus on ducks!!!
My goal every year is to get two deer in the freezer before duck season . I got a doe a couple weeks back and got lucky on this big bodied buck last night.

What broadhead you using or did I already ask?
I had been shooting Wac em expendables, but wasnt happy with the performance. They are designed to not necessarily open on impact, but open up after the front of the broadhead cuts a pilot hole of sorts. I had a disabled veteran hunt in Michigan and had my friend, Cory, shoot a doe at an awkward angle and it actually broke the blades off. We got lucky and found the doe with not much more than a field tip hole. Then I killed a doe with it and just wasnt happy even though it properly deployed and I got a pass through shot.
I switched to a Grim Reaper crossbow expandable for this buck and I was really happy with the performance.
Let me know if ya bothered to read carefully this time.:D:D

I read carefully... I'm old and whatnot. :D

Heard good things about the grim reaper stuff. The reason I ask is I am curious about crossbow kills given that a lot of them have higher FPS speed but not necessarily KE out to farther ranges. As people get more and more used to xbow equipment, I think its important to share info and experience. I killed a deer in 2009 I think with a grim reaper and had a good experience with it.
That'll do, lots of good eatin right there.

To your point on KE, I had this deer ranged and was very confident in the shot, although he was at the absolute maximum yardage I would ever shoot a deer with a crossbow...50 yards. I would have never taken the shot with my vertical bow.
The grim reaper punched completely through with entrance at the top of the shoulder on one side and exit behind the shoulder on the other. He went about 100 yards. The broadhead completely passed through, but he did break the bolt off with about 8" of the bolt still in the deer when I skinned it.

sounds like you need to find some grade 8 bolts. :D

Congrats Brother!
I assume you have relocated at some point in the past 10 or so years, because that is not the house I helped you move to. I guess we need to get together a little more often. lol
Good work for a turkey hunter.:D

Haha!! That rattled a memory or two. That was more of an escape than it was a move. LOL. She didn't know I was leaving when she left dat mornin and didnt know where I had went when she got home. Neighbor said it looked like the circus leaving town when we pulled out.:D
Appreciated the help then, and I havent forgotten about it now.
And yes, I am in a new place and with a wife that I dont have to escape from. God has done a major makeover with me!
