Well, got a call from a buddy of mine wants to go to Nebraska to see if we can get a bird or two. I'm not sure where we're going, all he told me was that its in the far northwest corner and a nine hour drive from here. Archery season opens March 25th and we'll be hunting starting March 31st.

He's been up there the last 3 years and tells me the amount of action is incredible. I'm looking forward to going after them archery only. Looks to be a fun trip.

:peepwall: Just FYI, I was looking into going there for archery, but I heard that you have to have bow hunter ed to hunt, and I don't have it yet..... :peepwall:

Well, I've checked it all out. Nebraska doesn't define a bowhunters ed, they just ask for your hunters ed number on the application.

We leave the 3/30 afternoon and will drive through the night to Shadrin, NE. The plan is to arrive right at time to hunt on the 31st. We will return on Tuesday, April 4th.

We're going private ground. My buddy tells me that we'll be right next to big public ground access, when I get back I'll give you the scoop on that so you can look at it for next year or maybe even later in this season.

When I was out this morning checking my camera, I saw a group of 4 gobblers working their way through a cornfield. Got my blood pumping nicely, I don't know if I'll be able to contain myself much longer. The weekend after I get back from Nebraska, I get to take my 10 year old out to try and get his bird.

mrmurph, I am also going to be hunting near Chadron. I am currently up here with work and plan on doing my fair share of some NE turk hunting. I have been talking to several locals and the area near Chadron is full of turks. They call it the Pine Ridge and it is extreme up and down hill. Kinda different from back home in SW MO. I was talking to a conservation agent here and he was saying that the birds will be on farmland usually until mid April still grouped up exept for a few old toms that stay in the woods year round. Anyway, give me a pm if you have any questions or need a hunting partner. I can't wait to go after some Marriams. Good luck!

My buddy is going to basically be the guide for us, this will be his fourth year going to the same place. I've been practicing with the bow every night and am consistently putting 5 arrows in a group roughly the size of a softball out to 30 yards. Last night I decided to mix it up a little and put a 16oz pop bottle out there and was shooting it from 30 yards. I was hitting it 3 of five times with the other two whisker close.

Went to Santee Neb. 2 yrs ago. Hunted of the Santee Indian Reservation up there. It cost us $35 dollars for the permit. That is all that is required. that is for 1 bird only. They have alot of public ground to hunt on, and there was a little huntin preasure. We saw a couple video crews up there shootin some hunting footage. We drove around the reservation and decided to pull in and talk to a few private land owners and see about getting permission. We never once got turned down. A couple of us got our bird. And belive me there were alot of birds. I plan on going back sometime. :sniper:
