You have to have a trapping permit, and you have to have the bobcats and otters tagged by MDC.

You can get 60-70 out of a bobcat, and MAYBE 20 (that's probably stretching it) for a fox.

If you wanna make $, you're going to have to shoot for bobcats and otters, and skin out the incidentals as you go.

you don't have to have the bobcats tagged if they are not going into the raw fur market.you still have to contact your local agent and tell him you have got one,but if you are gonna tan it yourself or take it to a taxidermist .

okay so bobcats and otters has to be taged if im selling. or if i keep them i just have to let them know i harvested one. i think i read it ends on the 15th, can i shoot a bobcat with my .22mag if i call one in?? i know i may sound dumb asking but i have no idea, i been yote hunting on a quail management area, i called in a bobcat, but didnt shoot at it cuz i had my .270 and plus i didnt know if i could or if i had to buy a tag to shoot them. so if i have a small game licence i can shoot a bobcat, fox and yotes? bobcat and fox ending on the 15th right?
all i like to do is deer turkey hunt, predators is all new to me. exept yote. please bare with me on these stupid questions.
thanks

dont do it!!! you'll be up at 5am to waste 10 dollars in gas to get a 50cent possum and 2 dollar skunk!! :rotfl: (or maybe thats just my luck;) ) but good luck to ya:eek:

also for selling them you dont sell tanned. you sell whole, green(just skined), or finished (skined, fleshed, stretched, dried) I'm not sure what the population is for otters around your place but if they are common they are goin for about $150 right now.

I had to have all my cats tagged to take to the taxidermist, this is per the wright county ca.I've got 4 there now, wonder why I can't make money at this:bangin:
The stuff I don't sell live market or for taxidermy,I sell whole.Back won't let me skin much and for a couple bucks I won't fool with it.
Heres what I got at the furbuyer
fox-10.00
****-tops 12 bottom 4
coyote-2.00, and he really did'nt want them
cats were bringing 60-70 bucks, did'nt sell any
otters 75-80 ,quotes from 2 buyers.
I think your better off selling whole for taxidermy or to the live market if you have one.
Not a lot of money in trapping,I'll never break even, gas, traps ,supplies etc.
I'm kinda like the goldminer that was asked what he'd do if he had a million dollars. His reply,I'd mine till it was all gone. theres nothing like rolling up to a set and having a cat, every one is like your first.Every morning checking sets is like the first day of deer season with the anticipation.
When you get ready to gear up,let me know if you need any help,I'll be more than happy to share the little knowledge I've accumulated.I've got some books and tapes if you want to borrow them.
Mike
Oh yea, don't thank me,I'll not be doing you any favor getting you hooked. It's as bad as duck hunting, fly fishing or any of the other activities(vices?) we love.
If you think I'm not hooked,we got 8 days left and I've been making new sets for two days.

guess I was wrong about the price of otters i thought they was more than that. Mikeak you are defintly correct about the addiction, I'm on vacation but up every mornin at 5 to run my line. Just put out another 3/4 mile of line that I have to walk, hope I have to some luck in the mornin.
if I ever get my movies back from a friend I have to dvds on water trapping ***** and mink, and one on beaver/otter I'd be willing to let ya borrow.

Mike,

I see that you've said you checked with two buyers...but it seems to me that you're getting ripped on the otters. Up here (N/C MO) they're getting $125 for the dark backed ones and $100 for the lighter ones.

Just FYI.

Parker,I don't trap otters.I just like to keep up on prices. I've heard they were bringing 100+ for northern Mo. otters,Quess they got better fur or better buyers. They were bringing around 100 here last year.I thought the pale otters brought more money, but then I really don't know.
Thanks Chuck. Good luck in the morn. Lets see some pics.

That's what I've heard in the past too, but this year they're wanting dark ones! At least that's the word around here in 'Otterville'.

Its really interesting how the 'supposed' supply and demand works in different areas!
