Contrary to reports of the devastation to Wi.'s deer herd and more significantly bucks a new report released by the Wi. DNR doesn't support the anti crossbow agenda of the Wi. Bow Hunters.

The report puts together success rates by weapon and actual bucks harvested. While the success rate was shown to be higher, the actual number of bucks taken by vertical archery exceeded crossbows.

Hunter Success Rate:
Firearms: 17.7%
Archery: 15.8%
Crossbow: 23.7%

Actual Number of Bucks Harvested:
Firearms: 95,093
Archery: 19,645
Crossbow: 16,096

They sure thought they had 260+k before they allowed xbows. I didn't realize crossbows decreased their archery season hunters.

Permits, Not hunters. Come on man, you understood this in the past....

I recently mistakenly posted that the number of bowhunters in MO was around 192,000 based on the permits issued . I was told it was only 110,000.

Evidently after receiving this I was wrong. So sorry for assuming permit sales were an indicator. :D

you guys are way off base. this is just the xbows getting them before the cars, trucks, coyotes, and mountain lions do. it's compensatory mortality, that's the key to understanding that this doesn't matter. the total number of bucks dying each year hasn't changed, just what kills them. carry over doesnt matter. the average deer that is killed is 2yrs old...they just dont live long enough for this to be a big deal. the increased harvest won't have an impact until the total buck harvest approaches 80% of the adult male population and the doe to fawn ratio (DFR) is less than 0.25 for 3 consecutive years. just a bunch of selfish whiners trying to keep people from killing YOUR deer. FOR SHAME!

That doesnt apply to deer. Deer are long lived animals.

No. It's not the same thing and im comfortable that everyone realizes that. Missouri has the ability for people to get both landownet and regular permits for the same season and Wisconsin doesn't. Come up with something less lame Hak. Lol

Are you sure about that?

This is the mo unique Hunter number for 2016 it went up considerably in 2017

Well, youre wrong. That number you posted was the total number of vertical, vertical upgrades, crossbow, crossbow upgrades, and patron permits issued. It is NOT the number of actual bowhunters.
