need ammo suggestions

I have a short prairie dog hunt lined up and am needing to find a bunch of 223 ammo that is not fmj and would love to not break the bank doing so. Would be shot through a bolt action, not an ar and would not be reloaded. Any suggestions as to where to look and what to look for? Would love to find something in the Columbia/Macon area

I always had good results with fiocchi 55 grn sp as far as accuracy for the money.
Have you searched midway arms? you save shipping picking it up.
Guess I have never considered having ammo shipped. Is there any kind of special steps you have to go through to ship ammo ?
Anyone had any luck with TulAmmo? Looks like I can order through academy sports 62 grain hp for $5.50 box. I heard this isn't worth a darn through an ar but didn't know how it would shoot through a bolt action.

IIRC there is a HAZMAT charge bt lots of places ship it..save yourself a bunch picking it up
Go to sgammo.com out of Oklahoma. Good prices and shipping is very reasonable

I've had good luck with these as well an PMC
No haz mat charges on fully loaded factory ammo but there is on components. Don’t ask me why it is just so. Unless anything has changed in the last year since I bought ammo on line.

Good luck on the hunt. Just do like me close your eyes and jerk the trigger real hard!!!
I have used Black Hills ammo in the past with excellent results. I don't know their current offerings, but I'd sure think about it IF they were offering a load with 50gr. VMaxes or 50gr. Blitzkings.
I normally loaded my own ammo for such trips, and those were the bullets I used and liked best, but one especially windy trip required us to use 68gr. loads, and I bought Black Hills ammo for that. It was howling that day, though, it would even blow the ammo off the shooting bench if we didn't pay attention. It even blew the muffs off my head!

When we were going a lot, I had cases of Black Hills blue box delivered right to the front door by big brown. Unfortunately, I only got the bug for about 4 years before our group disbanded but I was encouraged to buy 4 different rifles for that purpose and still have them. Lol
Where you going Josh?

Going to eastern Colorado on the way back through from our family vacation to Estes Park, just going to be a 6 hour shoot. Ended up getting a guide as from what I heard it's not as easy to find a good spot just by knocking on doors like it use to be. For our first trip and with having the kids I had absolutely no desire to go for long shots. Guide said he will put us on a town with tons of 100-200 yards shots. Beings on a family vacation with the kids and space is limited we are just taking a 223, 17hmr and 22 mag. Guide is also bringing a 2nd 223 out for us.

Seems like hunting something as small as a PD at 200yds, you shoulda figured out what your gun likes, not what’s cheap and available easily. You may luck out and shoot MOA with the first random ammo you find, but chances aren’t good. You realize that precision shooting isn’t exactly a kids sport, right?

Is he providing benches? You might bring a tripod or bipod too. I like sitting at my bench awhile then I go walk. I kill a lot more and have much closer shots when I'm mobile walking around. View attachment 138793 View attachment 138795 View attachment 138793
