My daughter is hooked

After a successful opening day of dove hunting, my 8 year old daughter asked if we could go this morning. "Heck yeah" I said and we went. We got 9 birds and she absolutely LOVES it and she was just watching! She asked me about getting her a gun and going for real next year. So I did what every proud dad would do and starting researching for a gun ASAP. I want to see about getting her going this year. When I told her that she was stoked, but I told her we would have to do a lot of practice before he ever go to the field with it. Looking at the Mossberg Youth All-Purpose Field Bantam 20 Gauge Semiautomatic Shotgun. Anyone hear have any experience with it?

Very nice. No experience with the bantam but my boy started with a youth Mossberg 500 and did very well with it. He's out grown it at 12 years old this year but it's been a great gun.
I want her to have a semiautomatic 20 gauge to maybe help absorb some of the recoil. Thoughts on this?

Those rem 870s kick harder than a 12 .... Get the semi if she can hold the weight
We’re talking dove loads, my 6 yo can shoot dove loads out of an 870, nothing kicks a 1oz dove loads
I have a mossberg super bantam with the 18.5” barrel for my boys. They started on it when they were 7 and 9. I’ve been fairly happy with it. Looking into buying another so they don’t have to take turns anymore.

How do they do with the weight of the gun? It is heavy for them?
They do pretty good with it after some practice. Initially they wanted to lean back to hold it up, but it was a matter of coaching them some.

I also started them with 1 shell at a time so they didn’t have to focus on trying to pump. After they got comfortable pumping the shotgun I started adding another shell.
conrats, glad she enjoyed herself and wants to enjoy the outdoors!!
Find a buddy or someone else with a youth 410 to borrow. If I was closer, I would let you use mine.

You are on the right track. Semis will kick less than a pump.
What is everyone’s thoughts on starting her on a Single shot 410. Or just go with the semi 20.

Gas operated semi 20 would be my pick.

I am going to go the 20ga route when the time comes.
