Off work for the next few days and they weren't calling for rain this morning so I decided to get in a goose hunt.

Hunted an area where that normally holds several birds in the past. Sat up in a worked corn field and by 7:30 the geese were flying. Had lots of groups give me a close look, but just didn't like something and I am still not sure what it was. Also had about 12 break off of a big group and cup up on me but then decided they had better follow the rest of the birds they were with. Finally called it quits at 9:30. Would hate to guess how many geese I saw, but I bet there was never a 15 minute stretch when I did not see birds flying.

I have had some good goose hunts in the past but don't think I have ever seen as many flying as I did today. Hopefully the wet weather will hold off so I can get another hunt in in the morning. If not, there is always this weekend

I was set up pretty close to a grass area near a frozen pond. I am thinking if I would have been another 100 yards out in the cornfield I might have had a bit better luck.

I was starting to wonder if I might not have been hid well enough. Then the crows started flying and they never flared from me. Even had one hovering about 15 yards about my blind. Was about to take some target practice on it but I heard a goose honking in the distance.

Thinking I had out about 30 full bodies and 2dozen shells today. Spread looked good, just think I needed to be a bit further out in the field

Sound good, concealment is a big factor too!

its one of 2 things:

a. they didnt wanna be there no matter how well you were hid, no matter the size of your spread, no matter how good of a caller you are, sometimes it aint gonna happen.

b. concealment is usually what kills people, they can see like no tomorrow. shadows usually kill folks more then anything, that and shiny white faces

yep concealment is pretty important to me. i normally spend more time hiding my blind than I do putting out my spread
