Ok, if I buy the .50 cal barrel for my T/C and buy a scope, how do I know what size base and rings to get?

On the encore I really like the Leupold QD Base and Rings. On the rings you'll need at least medium to clear the hammer.

Let me do some checking on the base number I have. Leupold and T/C have a few wires crossed and have misadvertised which bases fit which gun (Omega, Triumph, Encore, etc.).

Most scope manufacturers have charts you can reference to get the right ones. TC also sells rings/bases also.

You are looking at close to $75-$90 for bases and rings. Might be a smidge more. Let me do some looking later and get back with you. I know that's spendy, but I've never had a single problem with these bases and rings.

These are the bases/rings I have on my encore handgun. And if they can hold up to that shock then I figure they aren't too bad.

I don't know if it matters but I have the pro hunter. As far as price, thats a drop in bucket and worth it for what I'm investing.

Pro hunter and Encore are interchangeable for bases and rings. i look at it this way too. If you have a scope that will work for both rifle and ML (basically a non-ML specific scope), and you buy another barrel, just buy another base and use the scope for both barrels. Just pop the levers on the bases and attach to the other one.

I hear ya. For the .50 cal though, I'm looking at the leupold ultimateslam or whatever it's called (muzzleloader spec).

[rquote=1509783&tid=105301&author=Heeler75]Jay,
Here is the link to Midway USA's site with T/C Bases. My choices would be in this order: Leupold 1 piece QR, Warne, Talley.

http://www.midwayusa.com/browse/Bro...Id=14635&categoryString=657***8705***11711***

I also looked and Leupold QD rings are around $30-$35.

You might look at Midsouth Shooter's Supply or Natchez also as they usually carry the same stuff and don't know how their prices compare.[/rquote]

[rquote=1509790&tid=105301&author=Parker]I'm not POSITIVE you will need this, because I don't have one of those guns, but you should be sure to look at a hammer extension also.

Parker[/rquote]

Parker, good catch. On my encore I had to get an extension. Since Jay has the pro hunter whch has the "swing hammer" he won't need to buy the extension.

Yeah, it's not hard to do. I've installed all of my bases/rings/ scopes.

super easy, main thing is get rings that have either torx bit screws or allen drive screws, unless you have a good gunsmith driver set you apt to not have a flat blade driver to fit the screw exactly

also when applying loc-tite (blue) i think the number is 242 threadlocker

put the loc-tite on a q-tip and apply loc-tite to clean oil free screws, the q-tip will keep you from applying to much loc-tite to the threads

another suggestion if you don't have a scope ring alignment tool or a lapping tool my suggestion is to find 1, chances are your alignment will be ok , but why chance it, it's a simple operation to check it, and if it aint perfect you can lap it in, if it aint in tolerence, and you don't check it, you take a risk of damaging the scope when you tighten the rings up on it

Regardless of what you get for mounts/rings, I like to tighten the screws like you would tighten the lug nuts on a tire. Do a little at a time and tighten evenly across the whole set-up. Especially the Leupold. The torx screws are a little softer and will expand slightly into the threads when tightened. If you don't go slow you can strip one out pretty ease. (I know that one from experience).

If you don't have a scope level, use a rest or something like that to hold the gun straight up and down. Once you get that set install the scope tighten just enough to keep it from slipping too much. You can get the up-down/left-right really close by eyeballing the top turret in line with the barrel. Then check your eye relief. Once you get that where you like it, check alignment (up-down/left-right) and do final tight.

Yankee, on the ring alignment tool you talking the wrench that leuopold has to install their dovetail bases? If so, you can do with a closet rod also fairly easily. Put the top 1/2 of the ring on tighten around the closet rod and turn.
