Everyone still think they are not located in Missouri?

Mountain Lion Shot In Iowa
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- A Cedar Rapids man has bagged what is believed to be the first wild female mountain lion found in the modern era.

Department of Natural Resources furbearer specialist Ron Andrews said Monday's kill, coupled with earlier documentation of wild males, suggests there is a possibility the cats could naturally reproduce in Iowa. However, he said the cats' scarcity and human intolerance makes that a long shot.

Raymond Goebel Jr. said he spotted the 125-pound cat on a horizontal tree branch about 15 yards off the ground while hunting in a party of eight south of Marengo.

Goebel said it took him about 40 minutes to confirm that shooting it would be legal and the landowner did not object. He said he intends to memorialize the cat in a full-body mount.

Seems like almost everybody I know has seen a big cat, except for me & a lot of these people are not in the woods very much. Most of my life I've spent at least 3 months out of the year in the woods everyday- all day trying to catch critters just like lions & I have never saw one or a track of one or the scat of one or a kill of one & I was in the places where they should be & where these people were supposedly seeing them & setting traps that would hold one, maybe I'm just unlucky or maybe I'm just from Missouri & you got to "show-me" one for me to believe it:wave:...... "Just sayin".......Oh yeah, I have seen a bear.:02:

I don't think many people don't believe that they are in Missouri, I just think most of the stories about mountain lions in Missouri are grossly exhaggerated. They are definitely here though, but the fact that everybody and their brother has seen one is a little unreasonable.

Thats really interesting to me. I grew up just 7 miles from Marengo, and know many of the Kinzebaw family there. Some of you farmers might be familiar with Kinze Manufacturing. Unless things have changed alot there's not a whole lot of timber there.
I live in an area with a lot of lions and have only seen six in 20 plus years of hunting here.

I really don't understand how a news article from Iowa has anything to do with us? BTW, MDC doesn't deny the existence of the occasional lion here in Missouri. They have even adopted a management policy for mountain lions within the state. Basically that policy says lions are an undesirable species that cannot coexist in modern times within the state. And while they are protected by law in Missouri, there will be no effort made to expand their population here. So if lions make it here they'll do it on their own.

I've been holding my tongue on this site about my feelings about "painter's" for a long time now, just thought I would put it up on this thread, this time.
I did think I saw one with 2 kittens last bow season at about 200 yds., I saw long tail & all. I got down & downwind of them & stalked closer only to find that I was watching a femae bobcat & her 2 kittens. I really wanted to see one bad & at that moment I understood how people could mistake them for Painters, it seems that the back legs of a bobby will look like a long tail if you look at it right so I think many sightings are actually bobcats in many situations.

If you can't eat eat.....don't shoot it.[/rquote]

They changed the law in Colorado to where you have to dress it and haul everything out. They didn't like the idea of people skinning the cats and leaving the body behind. Supposedly this was to keep the from having one more arrow in their quiver against hunting mountain lions. So to make a long story short you are supposed to prepare the carcass as if you are going to eat it.
