I started out relocating grapevines and placing them in advantageous areas 20-25 yds from my set. I’ve since switched to ropes made of hemp. Local Bucks & Doe will rub placing scent on the vine/rope…. IMO any sort of additive isn’t needed and more than likely a grift……

 

couldn’t agree more! we put scent on a couple of them when we 1st hung solely because I already had it with us. After that, I let mother nature take over

 

I just added the vine that the buck is smelling last week. You can see the old one above his mid back. I likely bare handed it but that didn’t spook him.

the dope a rope thing is the biggest craze the last couple years.
I was at the local store this last week and there were 4 different companies with their Hemp rope and scent packages.
I think it was Tink's, was just a rope saying the deer are attracted to the hemp smell.

I think the vine/rope thing works for where you have the perfect tree but no existing scrapes. I do not "freshen" up existing scrapes. The deer know where they are.

Tip of the day? I do not like to holler at the deer to stop them, as they stop and look right towards you. Usually hiding the vitals. What I do is , this works even for rifle hunters at 200 yards. Put a scent "wick. rag, cotton ball " about 10 yards Up Wind of where I want the deer to stop for a shot. With a food scent, like Vanillia, or my favorite 307, not a doe in heat of any kind. As they are walking by, they smell it, stop and turn their head towards it.
Also gives you time If you have been sleeping or reading a book, texting etc it gives you time to grap your weapon and take a shot

couldn’t agree more. I have seen so many “mock scrape kits” advertised or purchased over the last year it’s insane! hell of a time to be in that niche market 😂

I have a jug in deer camp i urinate in. Put cams on mock scrapes and dump my urine in scrape. This year I am going to tincture deer glands and see if have different reactions.

I’ve used mock scrapes for years using droppers with deer urine. The best ones are in areas where there have always been natural scrapes. I typically put them out before bucks get serious about making scrapes. I tendons plan hunts around them…I just use them as another way to locate and pattern bucks after summertime bachelor groups have broken up.

 

I put this rope up a couple days ago by the perfect tree stand tree. There is a scrape on the other side of the field. I did clear the Poison Ivy and itch week out from under it, as I brought the poison ivy home with me

a couple up and comer booners visited it this morning. one was sniffing the rope and they are both down wind of it now

 

They're going to need another year.

 

And then some more. But I see the potential there yes sir e
